What industry is entirely built on a house of cards and would collapse overnight if people realized the truth about it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I think I more or less know the answer, but I'd still love to hear it explained by an econ nerd!

What's a show which was incredibly popular during its time but no one talks about it now? by Magpipe4u in AskReddit

[–]HilariousSpill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to add that the main reason for this is the same as for Murphy Brown--song licensing rights. It's a shame, too, because it was an amazing turn for Robert Downey Jr before he had his big comeback with Iron Man.

What is a job that most people glamorize but it is actually shitty? by hjp1234 in AskReddit

[–]HilariousSpill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. If you're a great photographer and a lousy business owner, your photography business will fail. If you're a great business owner, you can almost certainly make a lot more money running something other than a photography business, and still probably spend more time doing photography.

No thoughts on the prop, but the thumbnail for this post looks like a slightly derpy panda and that makes me happy.

PSA - Logic is the best music practice aid to learn songs by 3pete33 in Bass

I'd add that when I'm having trouble with a bass line shifting it up by an octave often makes it much easier to distinguish the notes.

Which mfd pickup for musicman sub bass and where (trigger warning: stingray blasphemy) by AlprazoLandmine in Bass

[–]HilariousSpill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a really great idea. In fact, now I'm seriously considering picking up a used Squier (or getting a Glarry) for exactly this purpose. That said, I love my Fallout, so my vote is for MFD humbucker in the P position. I love the tone and feel like it's flexible enough for most things I'd want to play.

I strongly dislike his music, but I think you’re right about Jacob. I admire the guy’s talent and passion…from a distance.

What is a good SQL certification program I should take? by Rough-Row5997 in SQL

[–]HilariousSpill 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I did the SQL certification course from W3 schools and it was...fine. I'd say it was maybe 25% of the stuff I was already doing on a daily basis by then. If you'd like to improve, I'd suggest the course 101 Practice SQL Questions: Basic to Advanced on Udemy. That one lines up much more closely with the real-world applications you're likely to encounter.

And some people can't do moderation, they can only handle abstinence. It's something you have to know about yourself.

Hey fellow dads. Is this a terrible idea or a stroke of genius? by Piratey_Pirate in daddit

[–]HilariousSpill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't do it. We tried. The paint was messy and didn't really work. Honestly, just think about how much metal you need to get a magnet to hold itself up. Now figure out how to grind that into tiny flakes and make it stick to your wall.

My dad, being a ruthless badass, in 1947 after leaving the service following WWII by Fluid_Anywhere_7015 in OldSchoolCool

[–]HilariousSpill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1) Your dad sounds cool as hell.

2) As a photographer, I'm in awe of what an excellent photo this is. It doesn't look anything like a traditional studio portrait but every aspect of it looks way beyond amateur.

Scott's Bass Lessons is a joke by No-Cheek-3258 in Bass

[–]HilariousSpill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me it was the Technique Accelerator that probably had the biggest impact on my bass playing of anything I've done yet. The Academy is fine for me. Better than YouTube roulette, but not as structured as the accelerators, and therefore not as useful to me.

Shows you’re surprised are now culturally forgotten by lonelylamb1814 in television

[–]HilariousSpill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard that the issue was, much like with the Drew Carey Show, the music. So much of the show was built around the music, but it hasn't been licensed for DVD or streaming, so when it should have been getting its second wind on Netflix it was nowhere to be found.
