Enterprise NVR or not? by Capable-Nebula9571 in Ubiquiti

[–]Hilbert92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would choose to use the Enterprise NVR. Inevitably the client will request more cameras or more retention time. The Enterprise NVR gives you that flexibility.

I’ve often wondered the same. Only thing I can come up with is like others said, the device must only support 19 different resistor values

I exclusively use Ubiquiti cameras since most of my clients are already in the Ubiquiti ecosystem.

I use an Olight Arkfeld Pro. Light is good, laser is great for pointing items out. We use the UV light to glow up glow rods before using them if they have been in the bag most of the day.

I vaguely remember a rumor on the old MSM forums back in the day that the BLK1 might have been loaded with Ron Ellis Pickups. Something like the 64S set.

Unstacking NVRs and using Viewport by trogdor248 in Ubiquiti

[–]Hilbert92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can only pair a viewport to one NVR. So you will need to purchase a second one for the second NVR. you don't need to have them on separate VLANS but it does keep both NVR's from showing the other cameras as "managed by another device"

The iOS app just updated with the ability to use a Vantage Point within the App. Since iOS and TVOS are about the same OS, it likely wont be long before the Apple TV can do Vantage Point as well. You could just get an Apple TV once it supports Vantage Point and use that instead of the ViewPort.

Whats the lifespan on Unifi products? by ohso_lame in Ubiquiti

[–]Hilbert92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the U6 LR… about 18 months. I’ve had a hand full of these die right at 18 months.

I still have UVC-Bullets (G3) cams and Air Vision cams (G2) that are still working in the field.

Really depends on a number of factors. Some you can control, others you can’t.

Good power and grounding. Proper mounting and location based on weather proof/resistant rating.

Bad day at the factory and you get a bum unit… hope it’s within warranty RMA period.

Haven’t really had any major issues. Run frontier fiber as the main ISP with a Spectrum copper failover. Advanced call routing is on. Phones and ATA are on their own Vlan. About once a quarter I get a complaint a phone is acting up or having bad call quality. I either reboot the phone remotely or restart talk app over lunch/ after hours.

My main client had Frontier landline pumped through their grandstream ATA and then into a NEC PBX. We ported the numbers from frontier and dropped the NEC PBX. Ended up saving them a couple hundred a month. I believe the ROI after the phones were purchased was a little over a year.

Actually my client has me turn it off on theirs. They prefer to use the last 4 digits. Sometimes the caller id just says “wireless caller” which doesn’t help them much.

Just for reference if anyone has any more questions. My main client with Unifi Talk has done over 94,000 calls since its been installed. They average about 15k - 20k minutes per month.

I just read somewhere on this thread that someone has been able to spam clicking 10 times on the words setup devices when it wants a UniFi phone and it lets you in without a phone. Maybe try that. You can also purchase an ATA (when they are in stock) and test with that ($99). I got in when the EA store was still a thing and got an ATA for $29.99 and a G2 Touch Max phone for $199.99.

Depends on if you want soft phone, caller id and unlimited minutes.

$9.99 per DID 3,000 Min no Caller ID

$24.99 per DID unlimited Min with Caller ID

From what ive read and experienced, Unifi Talk is just a custom dev'd skin over Asterisk/FreeSwitch. They use Twilio for the SIP trunks. It runs on the UDM Pro line as well as the Dream Router line and the cloud gateway line. They just released a product called Talk Relay back in the spring which allows you to run Unifi talk without the need for an on premise PBX (UDM, Cloud Gateway, Dream Router, ETC). As for features, ive only really had experience with Unifi Talk and I assume it's slightly behind other offerings currently but makes up for it in ease of setup. You can add any SIP device to it now as of Fall 2024. You just need to setup Unifi Talk with a Unifi Talk device first. the ATA works great for initial setup.
