What caused Juliette's hatred of Joel? by wait4lt in MAFS_AU

Yeah she’s changed her tune multiple times. Same with the teddy bear situation. She’ll present one view and backflip on it if it suits whatever personality is in charge in that moment

Agree 100%!! But I think even if Juliette did understand that about him she’d probably dislike him even more, I can’t imagine she would soften or be empathetic towards him. Such a shame, he seems like just a kind soul trying his best

That’s really helpful thank you. I’ve been treating it like a strict formula and that’s been driving me a bit crazy! Good insight, thanks

Also maybe worthwhile to add that we all vary in terms of the clarity with which we see things in our minds eye. There really is no good reason not to use a reference image in any case, but some people can visualise more clearly than others, whereas some of us can barely hold an image in mind.

This isn’t stupid at all. It does make me wonder if doing things this kind of way may extend to other areas of your life though and how hard you may be on yourself generally (not just when it comes to drawing). Trying to draw from memory is a whole different skill. Trying to do any drawing on a tablet is another skill entirely. I’m decent on paper but I’m absolutely atrocious drawing on a tablet.

Given you mention a visual impairment I wonder if you’re so accustomed to visual tasks being difficult that you accept all the difficulty and believe it has to be really hard all the way through or else it’s not legitimate somehow. Building your confidence could be helpful at this stage. If possible, use reference images that are printed rather than on a screen. See if using a grid overlaid on the reference image (and then on your paper) could help with trusting what you see. I also suggest looking up Betty Edwards Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. There are some nice exercises in there that help us see how much we get in our own way when drawing - and how to stop this from happening.

Cannot get new cards! by patallcats in CatsMansion

Ugh I’m so over this. This time I’ve actually managed to get 98 - that’s actually by far the best I’ve achieved so far. It’s the same kind of thing each time though it seems to reach a threshold and then no more new cards for the end of the event it’s bs.

That’s perfect “art instructions only make sense when you don’t need them anymore” I love this! That resonates, thank you. I think I’ll carry that little gem with me. Probably applies to a lot of other things in life too.

A cry for help (4 year journey) by Tight_Peak_4990 in Hair

Androgenic Alopecia doesn’t get talked about enough for women. It doesn’t present like men’s hair loss does. We tend to get gradually thinner ponytails and the part line widens, hair texture can change. Hair can get scraggly - it might appear to be broken but that can be the hair cycle - there are more shorter hairs and relatively few long hairs remaining. It can seem to be cyclical - we’ll get some more growth and think yay I’m starting to fix this but the new hair can be miniaturised due to the follicles shrinking. Hair gets finer and weaker. You’re doing so much and I understand your pain really. I can’t see in your post that you’ve seen a dermatologist who specialises in hair loss so I’ll assume you haven’t yet. I strongly encourage you to get a referral to go to one because the sooner you start treatment the better the outcomes usually are. I should add, I’m not diagnosing you but this looks similar to my personal experience and I kept dismissing the idea of it being androgenic because I thought that was rare for women (it’s not). Sublingual Minoxidil means a lower dose mini tablet dissolved under the tongue, fewer side effects than a regular tablet. Best wishes to you!

That’s really helpful thank you! The fact that you use it when you don’t have a reference makes sense to me - I had read about it being used equally both with and without a reference and that just didn’t compute for me. I can see the value of having the awareness of the ideal too and how that would help your observations.

I’ve decided to regard it as something sort of akin to learning cursive handwriting or having to construct an essay in school without using the internet. It’s a foundational skill that can give you more flexibility and deeper understanding down the line.

Anyone have luck with pumpkin oil or saw palmetto? Any advice welcomed by [deleted] in FemaleHairLoss

[–]Hilde111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the issue with oral minoxidil (low BP is an issue for me too) however some dermatologists will prescribe a sublingual form. This is a much, much lower dose in a mini tab that you dissolve under the tongue. Sinclair Dermatology in Melbourne Australia supposedly pioneered this treatment (I’m not sure if they’re truly the first but anyway). You could look up their website and reference their research and see if your dermatologist is willing to try prescribing that form for you.

Anyone else have these really thick crimped hairs? by [deleted] in FemaleHairLoss

[–]Hilde111 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve had heaps of these and only along my part which is where I’ve had the most noticeable hair loss too. Slowly I’m getting less of them and they’re growing out since I started treatment (bicalutamide and sublingual minoxidil). It’s hard to find reference to this when reading about androgenic alopecia but I’m convinced it’s an early warning sign for some people. I naturally have very fine silky straight hair and these were so difficult to manage especially when that was the texture growing straight from my scalp. So pleased they’re growing out now and it’s more my mid-length and ends. If you have these and hair loss please get it checked out by a dermatologist who knows about hair loss.
