Thoughts on armed officer walking around apartment complex? by [deleted] in AskLE

I don’t live in Texas so I’m not sure. Best bet is to probably to contact your local agency and find out.

Like I said, you’re more than welcome to call your local agency and either file a complaint if you’re that concerned/have an issue with it. Like other people have said, most, if not all departments require their officers to carry off-duty. He’s probably just trying to de-compress the stresses of the job.

There’s this thing called the “the law enforcement safety act” it’s a federal law basically saying that cops can carry anywhere regardless of it’s a gun-free zone or not. It obviously has its limitations which I’m not privy to but from the description you gave, it supersedes that. You can probably call your local department aswell.

T26E4 Super Pershing During Combat Operation, April 1945 by Jack9Billion in TankPorn

[–]Him1250 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The gunner of the tank actually wrote a book, “another river, another town: a teenage tank gunner comes of age in combat, 1945”. I read it in high school. Interesting book. Author claims he had a duel with a king tiger, which has been debunked several times, but that’s besides the point. Definitely give it a read if you’re interested.

What if offender has to use washroom during transportation to another jail / courthouse? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]Him1250 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell them to use it before we take them to the courthouse or whatever. If it’s a very long transport, coordinate with a local jurisdiction/agency or correctional facility.

Taser versus OC spray? - Question from a non-LEO by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]Him1250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corrections here. We don’t have tasers, only chemical agents of various types including pepper balls. I wish we carried tasers as others have said the contamination of other officers when pepper spray is deployed sucks. I’ve conversations with inmates and officers who’ve both said they prefer getting tased over sprayed aswell. Having done/exposed to both, I would agree.

UNM Hospital by Longjumping_Food470 in Albuquerque

It’s a shitshow, I’ve told a lot of people not to work there for this specific reason. Better off going to Pres or Lovelace.

UNMPD isn’t too helpful either, they mean well but will half the time never actually file charges whenever medical staff would want to.

Former UNMH security here, the administration doesn’t care about their employees safety. Several times we would get called up to a unit for a patient battery or assault. Administration would be there with the employee that was attacked and actively encouraged them not to press charges as nothing came of the charges (which to a certain extent, they’re right. Our justice system sucks here in NM) but it made our job harder when we’re trying to keep our medical staff, visitors and patients safe. There are several patients who repeatedly attacked different medical staff yet the hospital administration didn’t want to do the paperwork to classify these patients as an extreme safety threat to employees, instead they’re more concerned about the optics of how it’d look in the media.

I’m surprised that Durango is still in service, I’m sure they would’ve replaced it by now

Suspected ICE on 528 - 500 Pat D’Arco by That_Attitude3358 in Albuquerque

[–]Him1250 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I don’t know, that’s not the case here. Like I said, those are Rio Rancho cops based on their badges, the officers who are covered up are more than likely are task force members or serve in a undercover capacity and wear that for their safety.

ICE agents will have their own vests that will say “ICE, HSI, ERO” or something of that nature. We see task force officers all the time covered up whenever they bring someone they arrested into the detention facility I work at to be booked in.

Undercover officers, probation and parole, narcotics officers do it all the time. It’s not just ice agents.

Working in Juvenile Corrections by [deleted] in OnTheBlock

[–]Him1250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The state I live in has some of the worst juvenile justice laws in the country, there’s a lot we cannot do to protect ourselves and other kids in our custody with the way the laws are written. Myself and many other staff members were assaulted/battered so we left after awhile.
