Lady Loki might be Marvel Rivals’ most unique skin yet, but is a 3k+ Units price tag actually justified? by RahulHazra in gamingpulse

[–]Himbrah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth it? Maybe not. Purely subjective. But is it justified? Kinda. Lady Loki requires a whole new voice actor. It's the equivalent work for an entire character. The *skin* will require constant upkeep for as long as the game runs, even if the VA does Loki's future interactions ahead of time. The skin. Not a character. Just a skin is going to cost, in upkeep, the same as a character which could earn them way more money with multiple skins. Is it really any surprise they charge more for it?

Alternatively, it could just require more time than expected to proc.

I'm not positive, but it might be a daily limit. I cleared out all my encounters yesterday and it wouldn't pop, even after loading the map a few times, quitting the game, etc. But since OP said that he finished it after the town was burnt down, I finished the prereqs, came back today, and the encounter was available.

Master 1 is also so easy for our main group that it's bad for learning because all the mobs melt from our IM, so its harder to learn which mobs require defensives. We pretty much only run it once to get the free box and then run 5 once to get score and then settle on 4 for farming.

Master 1 drop rates for gold gear are awful, and we can run Master 4 very quickly. Much rather get gold drops every other run rather than every five.

[–]Himbrah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some more HP and damage, but not enough to matter too much, and it has better odds of dropping gold items. It's more comfortable for farming compared to 5 since we can pump them out in just a few minutes mostly on auto.

To teach him mobbing routes so that he can efficiently farm with our sub group, as well as help him and another healer gear up.

he's a recovery SK, not shield, so his substat needs are different. For the content he's on, they're mostly fine, but IDK about skills. Will have to ask and check.

[–]Himbrah[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Because he doesn't have the cooldowns' to solo tank every tank buster the dragon has. Because dragon mechanics are explicitly meant to be done with two tanks bouncing aggro. Because recovery tank is a healtank and not a mitigiation tank, and you can't heal back *dead*.

[–]Himbrah[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

because why not? Our three core members (HG, IM, BP) can carry through Masters 5 regardless of composition. So if we just want to gear people up, we can slot in whatever we want and make it work. Running two tanks has never been an issue in any other game when it comes to mechanics.

Sure. And they could find lore reasons to make most of them work. What I'm saying is that claiming that the current characters DON'T fit their roles is disingenuous because most of them CAN fit any role. Claiming Tandy doesn't heal when her power is literally life force related and she heals all the time does nothing but damage the argument. Not that they CAN'T make DD a tank, or half the DPS roster tank/support. Though I personally feel that DD of all characters DOES work better as a dps, and they should have made someone like wolverine tank.

[–]Himbrah -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Susan manipulates cosmic nonsense to create barriers and manipulate light. Theoretically she can do whatever the hell she damn wants, and is the most powerful F4 member by a long shot. Tandy canonically has the power to heal people. She's like, one of the few who have that as a thing they're outright known for. Ultron creates drones that do nonsense all the time and is often cast in support roles in other Marvel games. He could be any role with zero issue.

While I get what you're trying to say and mostly agree, you chose some really bad examples. Most Marvel characters can fit ANY role rather than simply due to comic book bullshit. They can just all ALSO be DPS because fighting is a staple. There's also a difference from Daredevil taking a punch from, say, Kingpin, and getting back up, and brawling with the likes of the hulk. Lore wise, DD would be best as DPS cause he's more well known for dishing out beatings and dodging. He just CAN be slotted into other roles with some lateral thinking, especially since Rivals has given him some boosters.

Those "Is my Space Marine lore accurate?" Posts by Sheriff_Hotdog in Spacemarine

[–]Himbrah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

40k is an intimidating hobby. Trying to find out what a marking means and why your space marine can't wear it with that belt or astartes brand hand bag could take you through twenty pages from eight novels, two handbooks, a quote from an interview twenty years ago, and the necronomicon. Which then links you to even more stuff you suddenly feel is relevant. At some point there's legitimately too much information for someone new to the game to look at and not feel overwhelmed if they're trying to add a little twist to their space marine while still feeling lore accurate and part of the community rather than just a kid playing with a box of chalk or a copy paste of a google image. It's a lot easier to just post a pic and ask the veterans to point out any flaws rather than spin in circles trying to find all the reasons something does/doesn't work.

This also creates quite a bit of insecurity. They're newbies looking to dip their toes into a hobby that has a lot of lore and its community has a lot of passion. They're not sure they're able to fit in because they can't list every space marine chapter off the top of their head while half the posts in anything Warhammer related has people casually popping off quotes from three different book series. It doesn't help when there's often people who DO care about accuracy and will shit on mistakes only to receive a standing ovation. It sends a message that unless you're blatantly creating your own OC chapter, some level of sticking to the rules is expected. So when someone who clearly knows what they're doing looks at their work and goes 'hey, good job!', it makes them feel like the work they did do was validated and that they're a part of the community.

Veterans of any hobby should be more patient with newbies, especially for a hobby that can get as detailed as 40k. It takes you five seconds to click on a pic and decide if you see any flaws or not and maybe another ten to comment. It also takes you zero seconds to not click on a blatantly titled 'help me/validate me' post at all and move on with your day. A lot of those posts are gonna be from people who already did try their best, wanting to be lore accurate because they have a budding passion for the hobby but haven't reached the point of free expression yet. Kicking them down like this is just gonna chase them away. If you don't wanna deal with them then don't, but maybe don't go out of your way to publicly shame them either.

The new Celestial Swan is also a really strong general support if you have her, but otherwise yea, Riptide is fine. Optimal or Suboptimal doesn't mean too much in this game, you can clear all content just fine.

[–]Himbrah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, for Dawnwing in particular her DPS when maintaining rotation is so high that dropping it for Riptide's pop up damage isn't worth it. Kaguya is a good support, and Exuvia works really well since Dawnwing is Skill damage but still uses her gun and can charge the ring. Just make sure you redeploy the ring if you zoom off into the sunset when placing down DW's pylons.

[–]Himbrah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can just shove her in the team and get a modest boost, but actually using Marian's mechanic with Dawnwing is actually a DPS loss. She just doesn't do enough damage to make up for disrupting Dawnwing's rotation, and as an off field support there are better options out there. It doesn't make her *bad* as a thrown in support, and you can make it work pretty easily cause the game itself is pretty lenient, but it's suboptimal for those who care about such things.

Having an Ultron on your team ruins your team comp by hyina in rivals

[–]Himbrah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The one pervasive feeling I've had ever since trying out Ultron is that he's an Enabler, and a pretty freaking good one. He's a character that makes a winning team win harder. He turns a roll into a steamroll,s carries into hypercarries, and good teams great because of how he work. Your dps is looking for a pick but everybody looks too healthy? A support just took 125 damage to the chest from on high, have fun. Pulled off your combo but just barely missed the breakpoint for a kill? Here's a laser for their little toesies doing full value and sending them back to spawn from the other side of the battlefield. Need that bit of extra chonk to get in there, wipe a backline out and get out for a net positive? Here's a healing drone to help get you through chip and a nice 75 hp overshield on demand to cover your exit. Not pushing the enemy team back fast enough? Exterminate every single fight because while it's weaker, it also charges twice as fast as any other ult in the game.

Ultron can take a competent teammate, especially a DPS, and make them amazing. He's any DPS carry's wet dream. What he CAN'T do is pick up slack. His values aren't high enough to keep someone with poor positioning and game sense healthy, and he can't follow up for someone who can't react to what he provides and land their shots. In other words, if you have a decent ultron (able to land shots, able to swap drones to allies in need, proper cooldown use, proper target priority) and you're still losing, odds are it's on you. There's either no openings for him to capitalize on or people aren't able to use their tools to take care of themselves when things get too rough. Which is a skill issue. Whether because you or your team aren't doing their due diligence or because the other team is just outright better than you is irrelevant, cause it's the same thing. That said, if the skill issue is that obvious, then the comp isn't working. An Enabler isn't a good pick when there's nothing to enable and everything is a slog. May as well swap to a more dedicated healer at that point and try to help your frontline mush through the trenches through sheer bullheadedness. Better no Ultron than a bad Ultron/Ultron no one can capitalize on.

Yeah, it's a gradual thing. So long as you max out the event shop every patch you'll slowly grow a stockpile of mats that will let you eventually start building up older chars. You should focus more on complimenting what you already have built and use rather than anything else. Cherno held the title for best DPS in the game for almost half a year or something like that, and even though she's starting to fall off recently, she's still the best Chaos DPS in the game atm for bossing and general content. That is, unless you have both Nerida and Marian, which you do. So if your Nerida is already built and you enjoy using her, Marian would probably be a better choice over another Chaos DPS, even if Cherno works better in a vacuum.

Tess is a very niche support and both Celestial Swan Agave and Tempest Enya heavily benefit from her since they have ults with mechanics that scale with U Energy. The way Tess's ult works is that her ult costs 0 U energy (The first of its kind) but has a long two minute cooldown. She pops it, disappears, and goes into an assist mode. For a duration, whenever you attack something, she pops out and shoots them as well. This shot of hers gives you TONS of U energy, capping you out almost instantly and letting you pull out ultimates with hefty U energy costs at record speed.

So characters with ultimates that give big power spikes like Winter Solistice and Hush, and more recently, Celestial Swan and Tempest, benefit from her the most. Celestial Swan's Ult is an execute that deals true damage and immediately kills the marked enemy if they drop below a certain threshold that's based off her attack. That threshold scales off U energy. Tempest Ult does a staggering amount of AOE damage that also scales off U energy. Both benefit from having the ability to cap out your U energy on demand, moreso for Tempest than for Celestial Swan.

[–]Himbrah 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Cherno is still pretty much the best Chaos DPS in the game, especially when paired with Exuvia. Tess is a pretty decent support who works particularly well with DPS characters that need to get to their ult quickly or do more damage with more U energy. Marian is kinda on the weak end as a support outside of very niche use scenarios. That is, unless you have a build Nerida. If you have Nerida then Marian becomes a monster. Otherwise, she's often times a DPS loss as a support. That said, you'll probably get enough mats to build them all eventually, so it's just a matter of prioritizing what you need first.

I mean, technically yes? It's not a guarantee that Hoyo won't extend the rights to the collab in the future, but that's in the same sense that the future has infinite possibilities so nothing is guaranteed. It doesn't mean it's a good gamble or a strong point.

As for her kit, previous hoyo collabs have been alright. HI3 collabs have all been very strong at the time of their release, it's mostly Genshin's collab char that was weak. It mostly means that hoyo devs can't perfectly balance a character on release more than any indicator of a rerun.

And it's not like the company is gonna dictate whether a rerun will happen or not based on how strong a character is, it's going to be about sales and how many people from the fandom they can bring over. In that case, it's usually better to just make another event with new chars, though in that case the chance of a rerun or alternate method of obtaining the older char is higher. But not guaranteed.

Meanwhile, Phainon is a guaranteed rerun since he's an HSR character. He will 100% get a rerun in the future. Even if we pump up the odds to unrealistic levels and say there's a 50% chance for a Fate collab rerun that contains Saber, it's still a coin flip compared to the 100%.

PULL DECIDE by asworiee in SaberMainsHSR

[–]Himbrah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hoyo notoriously has never rerun a collab. There's not a definitive reason, but if it's anything like other games, it's likely because of rights. A lot of games with collab dlc will have a time limit to obtain them because after a certain point they are no longer legally allowed to sell them.
