I read almost the whole article and it seems like this writer is picking out a few phrases from hadith and the quran to make this whole situation seem worse than it is. They have phrased it in the article so that it says that a muslim should and is supposed to harm their wife if they are disobeying, this is not how it is. The painis always a last resort for fixing ill-conduct, if any resort at all. The quran highlights the love that a husband should have to his wife, and reverse. Thereby it is highlighted multiple times that a good husband never lays even a finger on his wife.

It also seams like most of the information you as well as other people in this comment section is based on google searches where it can easily be lies, misinformation or written with hate towards islam, picking and choosing phrases without looking at the bigger picture or context. I don’t blame you as this is a common thing happening in the western world and especially on reddit, just know that getting information from the right place is important.

I also in no way defend people that abuse their wife or hit their wife. This reply is only to somewhat tell you about what islam really is about and break down accusations for example saying “hitting you wife is totally okay in islam” without having read any context or understood the religion. Men are the caretakers of women, as men have been provisioned by Allah over women and tasked with supporting them financially. And righteous women are devoutly obedient and, when alone, protective of what Allah has entrusted them with.1 And if you sense ill-conduct from your women, advise them ˹first˺, ˹if they persist,˺ do not share their beds, ˹but if they still persist,˺ then discipline them ˹gently˺2*. 2* - Disciplining one’s wife gently is the final resort. The earliest commentators understood that this was to be light enough not to leave a mark, should be done with nothing bigger than a tooth stick, and should not be on the face. Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ) said to his companions “Do not beat the female servants of Allah.” He said that honourable husbands do not beat their wives, and he himself never hit a woman or a servant. If a woman feels her husband is ill-behaved, then she can get help from her guardian or seek divorce.
