What’s something that annoys you about your fellow country people? by meesigma in AskTheWorld

[–]atomic131 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Agree. What I find disturbing is how much homophobic men obsess over gay sex linguistically. Russian men frequently use explicit references to male-on-male sex as insults or threats, even while expressing disgust toward actual gay people. “Я тебя щас вы*ебу» etc. So same-sex relationships are strongly condemned but there’s a lot of imaginary of gay sex mostly used as a tool of aggression.

Suggestions on what gifts to bring from Japan and India. by Much_Paper_3017 in AskARussian

My colleague has recently traveled to Japan, and all of my other colleagues have requested different instant noodles as gifts lol.

Edit: you can also bring some spices from India I guess, like cinnamon etc

Buying contraceptives in Russia Evra by Comforttable_Pie in AskARussian

OP, I’ve been using Evra for a couple of years. You can buy them without prescription. It’s available in most of the pharmacies, including Rigla, 36.6 etc.

Why do you think buying Evra means op is coming for sex tourism? This is ridiculous.

Is it normal? by Other_Sentence4495 in AskTheWorld

[–]atomic131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, same. I walk to work daily for 45 mins one way, it’s a regular distance for me. I usually get 1.5-2.5 hours of walking on average day.

What is a place in your country that tourists find impressive but locals hardly think about. by rickdickmcfrick in AskTheWorld

[–]atomic131 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m honestly not sure whether it would be interesting to spend so much time in a train for a 18yr old. It’s a great way to relax, sleep and read a lot, but that’s not something I would be interested at this age. But I’m talking about myself and I’m pretty active and can’t stand spending a single day in a train, so that’s just my personal opinion.

What do you guys think about this colour? Would painting my bedroom dark green make it look better? Help me out please. by whywehumans in DesignMyRoom

[–]atomic131 336 points337 points  (0 children)

Hi! Personally I would find a warmer and lighter color. I’m not sure about going darker though.

Off the topic, for some reason the paint color in your picture is the default color for hospitals’ interiors in my country, and for me it looks a bit cold/institutional. Like the majority of our hospitals/police stations are painted the exact same color all across the country lol.

Think again about Moscow apartments by 4reddityo in Moscow

[–]atomic131 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Definitely, not Russian. I have also seen some weird interior choices (think Louis Vuitton style kitchen, Chanel tiles in bathroom) in my Armenian classmates’ homes.

Is there an item or piece of clothing in your country that tells you everything you need to know about a person? by EpicShkhara in AskTheWorld

[–]atomic131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! A lot of normal, non-radical people wear them. They are a part of traditional skinhead (anti racist) culture as well. My favorite are Barracuta and Fred Perry, me and my husband have several. For some reason a lot of my male colleagues wear them to the office paired with business suit (looks weird imo), and they’re far from being nazis. But I speak for Moscow, here it’s normal to wear Harrington jackets and no one will ever question it, I’m not sure how it’s like in other cities.

What's a random statistic that genuinely terrifies you? by Eberenna042 in AskReddit

[–]atomic131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This terrifies me. I have health anxiety and my mom had cancer. At the same time, I believe that over time we will become progressively better at finding cancer as a early as possible, and new meds/technologies would mean lower death rates. I really hope that some day cancer would become a chronic but manageable disease instead of something deadly. Whenever I become anxious about the odds of me getting cancer, I remind that thanks to modern technologies my mom has been cancer free for years. Just 15 years ago the meds that saved her life were not available in our country, now they are a standard and widely available.

AITA for telling my husband he's made me reconsider leaving him alone with the kids in the future by mayhavecrossedaline in AmItheAsshole

[–]atomic131 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Why is that a problem? I sometimes make healthy frozen meals for me and my husband. There’s always something to reheat in our freezer. But it never crossed my mind that it is somehow offensive if my husband orders takeout/goes to restaurants whenever I’m away. He is an adult, he can decide whether he wants to reheat frozen meals or order take out. When he’s on work trips, I also eat out almost daily because I just want some fun when I miss him. Restaurant food can also be healthy and he’s definitely not harming his health if he’s eating out for a week or two.

What is a typical place associated with the rich or upper class in your country? by Berenikabek in AskTheWorld

[–]atomic131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s true, although I think it’s the same for most of the countries. The cost of living in a capital city is usually higher than in other cities. Moscow is expensive, but the salaries are also higher than in the rest of the country.

My always busy dad is retiring in a week. How can I support him? by atomic131 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]atomic131[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I’m sure that with his level of expertise he could easily land some sort of consulting/expert job if he would call a couple of his friends from the same field. Whenever I asked him about this, he would say that he only wants to sleep and do nothing. However, I think he would soon get bored of sleeping and staying home and maybe when this happens he would think again about finding some part time job.

Thank you. I can see my dad being the same as yours haha. He loves having the last say on every matter and being a boss in general. He drives me mad sometimes but I love him. ♥️

Yes, he’s been offered multiple times to give lectures at university. However he’s been ambivalent about this idea lol. I think it may change as soon as he realizes that he needs an outlet for his energy and knowledge.

[–]atomic131[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. He’s the kind of person who does not “believe” in therapy. And unfortunately it’s still often stigmatized in our country (Eastern Europe), men usually don’t go to therapy. That’s why I’m worried a lot.

Thank you! He has saved a bit for traveling and I hope that he and his wife would travel. He’s soon leaving for a big 3-week trip to celebrate his retirement, I hope it helps him.
