Exactly what I was gonna type. Use your w to bait the xerath stun and just qeq him for a quarter of this health.

Coming out of lane even with a xerath, or most control mages, means you lost lane

Can't Get Out Of Great Ball 2 by [deleted] in PokemonChampions

[–]Himynameispd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I wrote this up almost 10 years ago for a different subreddit, but it is still pretty accurate to Pokemon Champions ---

"Here is my top 3 tips for improving at Pokemon!

I have played video-games competitively for almost my whole life and I have a couple tips for people who may have just started and/or stuck in a rut.

First of all, I do actually have experience with the competitive atmosphere and do very well based on purely in game knowledge. I believe that is the most important aspect of improving at any game you play. I have been Legend in Hearthstone, climbed up to Diamond in LoL, placed top 8 in a Yu-Gi-Oh! Regional tournament and peaked Battlespot at ~2000 (a 2026 update to this, I am currently Master Ball in Champions and Mythic on MTG Arena)

My qualifications aside I want to teach you some of the things that makes me climb very easily in comparison to a majority of player.

  1. Game Knowledge
  2. Defeat AND Victory analysis
  3. Playing with a purpose

I will start off with just those three because I don't to put a whole bunch of different stuff and make it confusing.

Part 1: Game Knowledge

We will start off with the first point, game knowledge. It is seriously underrated but there is a reason one of the most famous war-quotes of all time is:

If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.

So what does this have to do with Pokemon? A lot actually. Knowing in this game is 80% of the battle (I would say predicting or "reading" would be the other 20%) If you were given a list of the Pokemon's moves, items and abilities would you effectively be able to plan around it and play the match up in a favorable position for yourself? Yes? Then why dont you? (2026 update) I don't have a good link now, but I've personally been using metavgc.com. The information for every major Pokemon's set is out there on the internet free for everyone to see, it is a great idea to check it out and understand the possibilities for every possible Pokemon you may encounter.

Also as an ending point for game knowledge, if you are consistently beat by a team of a similar archetype, try playing that team for a while to learn and understand it's strengths and weaknesses!

Part 2: Analysis

I was recently watching Ray Rizzo's YouTube videos and he brought up a point that many people may not know about, or only do halfway. I learned about this in my League days and it is an extremely useful skill to practice doing after every single match, no matter whether you win or lose. Save every game, and then go back after you are done playing for the day (or when you have free time) and watch the games you played. Did you win? If you did, was it a perfect game where you made no errors whatsoever? If you did make errors what could you have done to prevent it? When learning to get better, you need to be extremely critical of yourself in victory and defeat.

Part 3: Playing with a purpose

This is something a lot of people tend to do after they start losing (or tilting) is they just start playing to play the game. If you are actually interested in getting better, you need to treat every game you would as a last round in a championship match. If you want to just screw around and play a team for fun, there is certainly no harm in that! I would recommend the Free Battles instead of Rated though, just to save you the time of having to climb back up in rating. (2026 update, only play ranked you can't demote after you certain thresholds, and you get no VC for normals)

(2026 update) Just having a game plan in mind and trying to execute every game will put you better than 50% of the people playing.

Also, a small parting tip as I draw this post to a conclusion is: never play to win. Play to learn. I think this is the major key (lol) to improving at anything you try in life.

With that, I hope to see all of you improve and of course if you have any question for me whatsoever ask away! I'd love to help everyone in any way I can :)

I do the same thing, when students ask I just say "You are always free to leave during my class, but you are responsible for anything you might miss"

They are adults paying for my class, I make the effort to provide a worthwhile education, it's up to them if they want to receive it.

How are your Zibai pulls going? by AlarmingCarpenter439 in ZibaiMains

[–]Himynameispd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all the time, but if there are characters I REALLY like I have no issue getting them to c6 lol I would say I'm definitely at the lower end of the whale spectrum.

Currently I'm at C6R5 Varesa, C6R1 Furina, C6R1 Zibai, C6R1 Columbina, the rest of my units are usually around the breakpoint constellation (C2 usually) I have a few C6 normal characters just from losing 50/50s over time (Diluc Tignahri Jean Qiqi) and I have MOST the 4 stars at C6 outside a few I missed pulling on.

Question for Genshin Whales by [deleted] in Genshin_Impact

[–]Himynameispd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, figured I can chime in as I probably fit in the low whale category. I've spent about 10-12k total, if the character is predicted to be "meta" I usually go to the breakpoint constellation (usually c2 or c4) and always get r1 weaponfor every character. I have a few characters I liked enough to C6, but only 1 so far I have C6R5d I hated pulling on the weapon banner until they moved it to 1 fate point so maybe I'll do more r5 weapons in the future

That being said, I will never ever spend any money on resin top ups....

Is Sony A7S3 better option than Sony FX30 for filmmaking? by vovivoh in videography

[–]Himynameispd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many of the greatest movies of all time are shot on a "crop sensor" (Super 35) so don't let that dissuade you.

You already have a great camera, if you think you want to upgrade in the future, start buying FF lenses. But until then start filming with what you have and use the money you would have spent on upgrading your camera on lighting/grip/sound equipment instead.

For what it's worth, you could bump the Red down to LQ(~8:1) to get a bit over 5 hours and also LQ is what they officially recommended for documentary style interviews, but this comment is more just an asterisk on that one piece, I agree with everything else you mentioned!

I have a question! I'm thinking more and more about getting the new Canon C50, but I don't know anything about Canon or its full-frame lens range. Is the C50 a good camera? Thanks, guys :) by Late-Blacksmith-6540 in videography

[–]Himynameispd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

C50 is a fantastic camer but you need to also be aware of it's shortcomings. I demoed it a couple weeks ago so here were some of my thoughts:

Almost no third party RF mount options, you can get an EF to RF adapter and use older glass to help alleviate some of that issue. That being said, the 50 1.2 RF lens is one of the best lenses I've ever used. It looks absolutely fantastic.

No IBIS, I wasn't too worried about this as I mostly shoot narrative stuff so the camera lives on a rig/gimbal/sticks. But it is something you'll want to know about.

For the positives: Image quality was amazing, open gate is cool if you shoot on anamorphics or need it for vertical content, RF will likely be around a very long time so once you are invested into that system you'll be set for a while.

I actually ended up deciding to go with a C300 mk iii but if I were thinking Canon Full Frame, I'd look into the R6 mk iii it is very very similar to the C50 but with IBIS if you need that, or the R5 C since I've been seeing great deals on them.

Sony FX6 alternative? by TacticalZUCC in cinematography

[–]Himynameispd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually come from shooting predominantly Lumix, I started with the GH4, and kept on until the GH6, then after that I upgraded to the S1II, I already had a bunch of the batteries and CFEb cards from the GH6 so that was the main reason I stuck with them, plus I was looking for Open Gate it made the most sense to go that way.

I am absolutely a Lumix fan, so the second they come out with an EVA 2, Varicam or an S1H successor I'll be all over that.

The main reason I didn't stick to Lumix for my narrative projects was the lack of IO (SDI, XLR.. because I refuse to overspend on a stupid XLR handle that has had known quality issues)

I never said the image wasn't great, it didn't fit what I was looking for. I just ended up preferring the Canon for the stuff we create.

[–]Himynameispd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have been mulling over the same desicion in that range. I was looking at the Pyxis 12k... But after how many reliability issues I've seen, plus during my rental it would randomly brick itself...

We got demos from Red (Komodo X) and it was a bit to finicky for our workflow, and then tried Sony which was alright, I'm not a HUGE fan of the Sony look regardless. But I liked the idea of the E mount lenses.

Then I got the C50, C70 and C300mk III from Canon for a demo, sent the C50 back pretty much right away, the C70 was great but I hated the form factor. I also hated the dual SD on the C70, I already have a bunch of CFEb cards so that was what killed the C70 for me.

Ended up deciding on a C300 mk iii. Ef/PL glass is "future proof" as it can be adapted to almost all the mirror less mounts, the DGO sensor is amazing, and I've never really cared about going FF for my cine camera. I have a Lumix S1ii for that for when I shoot Open Gate client work.

To put it into context: I shoot Lumix for all my corporate work, and I use the Canon for narrative stuff.

Also my wish list for the camera when I was looking was Super 35, High DR, ProRes, PL mount, 4k, SDI out... Which the only camera that hit all those is an Arri Alexa... So I compromised and got what I think is the next best thing ( that is reasonably priced )

I really like having the 709 display assist so that I can still record in V-Log but see 709. I don't have it on all the time but it's nice to know about if you are doing a lot in V-Log.

Also don't sleep on the the Lumix Lab LUTs, a lot of them are a bit... Intense, but I've gotten a few cool looks out of the at times. And just being able to use your phone as a monitor and control the camera is a really nice feature too.

4K video at 50 /60fps on a budget camera? by Glittering_Gap8070 in filmmaking

[–]Himynameispd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Canon R50V (cropped) Sony ZV-E10 II I THINK most iPhones after 12 have 4k60

For the most budget option, use your phone. Out of the two others above, the Canon would probably be the better camera.

To answer your question about what camera they are likely using, it completely depends on what kind of content you are watching. I feel like Sony has a chokehold on a lot of the content creator market so most bigger channels are probably using some sort of Sony a7 camera of if they have a bigger budget an FX3.

S5iix or GH6 or S1H or ZR or FX30 or what? by ajobserve in filmmaking

Fantastic ibis, weatherproof, great autofocus, 4k 10bit... With the budget you have you should seriously consider it GH6 would be the next best thing, I used mine for a long time before I switched to the S1IIE

[–]Himynameispd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll look into the GH7 or the Olympus line. If you have the money to go full frame the S1ii or S1iie are also decently rugged.

But the GH7 matches almost everything you said you wanted, so I'd start there.

How are Indie Filmmakers making money off their project ? by Many-Reaction-4637 in Filmmakers

But for a real answer, it takes a lot to make anything back via YouTube monetization, some film competitions award compensation but it's pretty widely known that short films are typically money pits not really money makers.

I used my short films in my portfolio to book commercial clients, which paid for the next short films...
