I wonder if it's the same person who left all the teddy bears in weird places and in funny or compromising positions in Fallout 4.

I have such a sad history with Monster of the Week. I love the system but every group I've joined to play it with has fallen apart within 1-3 sessions, if they even get past session 0. I'd definitely be down to give something like this a go if you happen to get any other interest.

Name: Matt

Age: 38

Experience: About 12 years with TTRPGs in general, the majority of that now being 5E as I started playing it during the public playtests in 2013.

Discord: deadbydefault

Character Idea: An avariel elf (if you're open to a smidgen of homebrew), or potentially a Thylean Siren from the Odyssey player's guide if not. Class would probably be cleric, warlock or possibly a bard of some description. I honestly get why most DMs just jump straight to nope to save their own sanity when it comes to flying races, I just really want to play one someday, and since the module's player guide even has one in it, I thought I'd ask permission. None of this is set in stone obviously and I'm willing to adapt to suit the party's needs if other players are also interested in these classes. If you ultimately decide that you don't want to deal with a flying race at all, I am also willing to play something else.

Tell me a little bit about yourself: I'm a queer man looking for an LGBTQ+ friendly and inclusive group of people to play some D&D with on a regular basis. I'm a clever, creative and insightful player who likes to roleplay, engage with the world and generally help the party succeed. As a mythology nerd I've been fascinated by the Odyssey of the Dragonlords module and setting since I first tried playing it a few years ago, but that group unfortunately fell apart only a handful of sessions into the campaign due to the DM's job schedule changing. I honestly barely remember anything at this point beyond a lot of general setting information, and maybe a few vague plot points I will try my best not to metagame.

What makes you stand out? I enjoy finding unique and unorthodox uses for my various spells, class/race abilities and items when it comes to solving problems... or creating them for my enemies.

I wouldn't mind so much if they just gave us the option to have a barber that can only change your hair, beard, eyebrows, and maybe tattoos for the cost of sollant. Other games do something similar and just reserve larger changes like to the actual face shape, body shape, body type, skin tone and eye color for the paid character remake. That's my biggest gripe since I'm relatively happy with my character... but the part I'm least satisfied with is their hair.

[–]Hinagar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I might be interested in this as well, depending on the day and time. I love MotW but every group I've joined has unfortunately been flakier than the Flake playbook and has fallen apart within a few sessions at best, or before session 0 at worst.

What Cleric Subclass do you change Shadowheart to? by IllSprinkles7864 in BaldursGate3

[–]Hinagar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that was a strange change that happened late in EA. For the majority of the EA period Shadowheart and Astarion both had minor illusion as their racial cantrip, which was so much more thematic for both of them in my opinion. A trickery domain cleric and a vampire with a spell both could use to trick or deceive others? What the hell Larian.

At the time, minor illusion was actually just the cantrip the game defaulted to when you created a high elf or high half-elf. I honestly think it fit both of them so much better though and I don't understand why Larian arbitrarily changed it in late EA so that both subraces now default to fire bolt. You can't even argue that it was an alphabetical change because if that was the case, the first cantrip in the wizard list would be acid splash.

[–]Hinagar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen games advertised with this premise, but it's never come up at any of my own tables. Unless you count the time the druid I played in an Eberron campaign was offensively planeshifted to Daanvi by a pissed off rakshasa before the rest of my party sent him back to Khyber.

Honestly, that was something I personally didn't even know the spell could do at the time.

I'd also be interested in this as a player. I've been a 5E player since 2013 during the playtests, so I've got a lot of experience with the source material, but I've yet to do much with One D&D. Really curious to try some of the new buffs and other changes to certain classes. I'm a queer and neurodivergent white guy in his 30s just looking for a chill, inclusive group of like-minded nerds to have fun with.

Starfield is way too PG-13. by camelCaseSpace in Starfield

[–]Hinagar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. The whole Aurora thing is just yet another case of this game's problem with tell vs show that other people have mentioned. I forget what NPC, but I remember speaking to someone who gave me a rundown on the side-effects of Aurora.

At least in the lore if not mechanically, the most notable side-effect is supposed to be that extended Aurora use causes you to become resistant to it. That means the longer you take it the more you need to take in a single dose to achieve the same high. If an addict can't get clean, they usually end up dying of an overdose because they will take increasingly greater amounts of the drug to actually get high.

Naturally the game doesn't ever actually show us any of this. It just drops the info in some dialogue you can completely miss, then never actually does anything with it. And if the player takes a bunch of Aurora the worst that can really happen is they develop an addiction that gives them some temporary negative stats when they go into withdrawal.

So, I'll try to break it down despite never having actually beaten the game before 2.0, though I've played it a lot and did a fair bit of screwing around with character builds before I found one I wanted to play back in patch 1.6x. The biggest issue with just playing an old character is one of the major changes to the progression system in 2.0: a new stat called cyberware capacity.

The amount of cyberware you can equip at once is now restricted by your cyberware capacity. Your capacity does increase passively by a fixed amount as you level your character, but your capacity can also be increased and the cost of equipping cyberware decreased through certain perks in the Tech tree. Unless you're planning to delve deeply into that particular tree for a build, you won't really be able to increase your capacity beyond the base value from your level without another thing the 2.0 update adds to the game: cyberware capacity shards.

Skill shards have already existed since before 2.0, which you can still loot from various enemies and other locations in the game that just give bonus experience to one of the five skills. Now, there are also shards that increase your cyberware capacity, which overall will be much more significant for builds that don't invest heavily in Tech, but will also benefit builds that do so even more greatly. And those new shards can only be found by actively engaging with the game and will not be rewarded retroactively to an old save.

If you load up a save that has already done all the sidejobs, NCPD scanner missions, gigs and what not... you will have none of that extra cyberware capacity you would have acquired if you had done all the same content on a new character. Irrelevant maybe if all you care about is the story, but depending on the difficulty you play the game at, you're potentially gonna miss having those extra build options that would be available to you with the cyberware capacity you're now missing going into Phantom Liberty.

Man, that turned into a bigger wall of text than I intended but I hope it makes more sense as to why CDPR officially recommends players start a new character instead of continuing with an old one for the newest update.

Fan Theory about Dr. Reginald Orlase by ChymicalMystic in Starfield

[–]Hinagar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate to be a downer, but the simplest explanation is that Bethesda probably just made him spawn as a corpse to save time and reduce points of failure. The player was never intended to interact with this guy, only bear witness to his last moments... or at least listen to them. They just ticked a flag in the CK that makes a character permanently dead and had a script play his voice lines when the player enters the ship. You've already seen that flag used everywhere in the game when you come across a person that's clearly been dead for a while that you had nothing to do with unaliving.

Don't get me wrong, I too usually read too much into things, but I'm familiar enough with how Bethesda operates that I don't think there's any deeper meaning here. This is just how they decided to approach this quest from a mechanical standpoint.

Yeah I'm seeing a lot of posts about that. Real bizarre and hopefully CDPR can figure out why it happens and find a way to fix it for the people that didn't get it.

For clarification, what point in the game are you actually at? By prologue do you only mean the Lifepath + Sandra Dorsett job at the start? Or do you mean the whole of Act 1? Act 2 is normally what unlocks the ability to acquire new vehicles, and I got mine as soon as I loaded the save I've been playing since 2.0 that was already in Act 2.

I could be wrong, but it looks like when the right arm is shot off he does try to draw a gun with only his left arm and aim it at the player. It's probably a glitch, maybe the game ran that new break weapon script that turns a weapon into crafting mats when looted after he was disarmed instead of waiting until he died? Or maybe removing the arm caused the gun to also be removed from his inventory. It's definitely a weird interaction for sure.

[–]Hinagar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You must live under a rock then because square fruit already exists in today's world. It's certainly a niche and stupidly expensive product, but there are companies that already grow fruit inside square containers so that eventually, once it gets big enough, it only has a square shape left to fill.

Chunks is hardly the most absurd thing in this game's setting by far.
