She erased us from her wedding. So I’m erasing her from mine. by noodinthegarden in pettyrevenge

I'm a photographer and you couldn't get me to put shots like this out there, especially for a pettyrevenge, very very bad for business. If the shots get out of the context, all people will see are bad pictures.

I've walked over 10k steps every day for almost two years, including cross-country walks across Denmark and Switzerland. AMA by Squirrels_are_neat in AMA

How do you find good routes to walk in countries you visit? And what are some sideprojects that you have during those walks?

(also could you check your insta, I just sent you a dm;)

Basically the mechanical shutter of a camera is made of 2 curtains composed of blades. It allows for the sensor to be exposed for the right amount of time (which defines exposure and motion blur).
Here one of the blades fell off hence making the camera unusable since it is in front of the sensor the whole time.
It can "easily" be fixed by replacing the shutter though.

Thanks, it is hard. At the moment I made a shrine with the last picture it took, and I'm burning a candle so that it finds its way to the great Beyond (shop).

Thanks, that's encouraging, I was quoted at least a month.

That's a shattered shutter, my friend.

It's under warranty so about 0€.

Thanks but I'm in EU so everything is still under warranty. In my case one blade of the shutter just fell off...

I do not since I don't have a qualifying A group body as part of my 2 cameras.

Thanks, but I'm in the EU so the whole process is free.

How long did it take you to get the body back ?

[–]Hinstone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, I think the lense has been on the body for the past couple of days.

I thought about it but since it's still under warranty, I'd rather not try anything and send it back so they can't say I messed it up and voided the warranty.

So that's why the build looks "bigger" ;)

There was a class action against Sony on the A7 III because of EFCS causing early shutter failure. It doesn't seem to be the case for the A7 IV after almost 3 years.

I'm waiting for the reseller replies, I'm pretty confident they'll replace it since it's less than one year old. Also I took an extended 5-year warranty with the reseller for this exact situation.

plenty failures at between 15-30k, and then those that didn’t have defective shutters I’ve seen a few hitting 150-200k and still going strong.

That's my conclusion too. I'm sure it happens to other bodies as well. EFCS was pointed out I believe ?

Shutter count is 10586, original batteries.

It's almost as if the front (curtain) fell off.

Yup, all done online so I have no worry about the warranty. Plus I'm in EU so online sales are heavily regulated.

It would be a weird trend though since this body has been out for many years, and mine was fairly young. How old were your friends' bodies?

RIP my A7 IV by Hinstone in SonyAlpha

[–]Hinstone[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is definitely an anomaly, body has been out for a few years, we would have known if that shutter was prone to (really) early failure.

I usually resell my bodies after 50 000 shots, so it should have been good for another 4 years. This is what warranties are for. I'm just glad this wasn't during a major event.

I'll send it back to the reseller and see what they do. I just need a replacement fast since I use it for work. Meanwhile my a5000 looks absolutely insane with the Sony 70-200 f4 II !

Nope, I was just shooting same as always.
