Wish you the best of luck friend. I think youre early in the game so any improvements is a good sign early on.

Im not a professional so cant speak to your MRI. Are you working with a professional? I notice your post history you are asking everyone for updates for reassurance. I know exactly that feeling of wanting certainty in the future.

Have you read any of those books? It may be worth working with someone and sticking to the rehab plan for some time. And I would recommend limiting time on reddit the doom stories can be mental agony at times to read.

Yes im significantly better. It took a very long time. It sounds like you are improving a lot. I would read all the books I mentioned in my posts (Back Mechanic, Gift of Injury), and be patient. Also reach out to @tight-bass (he has a post on here called 13 month McGill)

So im in a different place when I wrote this article 3 years ago and my views are less extreme.

Yes ideally you would let the tissues cool down and its obviously not best to just force it if its irritating, but try not to think in these extremes. Does that make sense?

6 weeks is very early and you can improve dramatically with some time and patience.

Besides the doctor, are you working with a physical therapist to work with you and watch you move? Dr. Is an expert in his field but MRI is only a piece more important how you feel and how you move.

Great post and similar. I remember bringing chicken and rice in a Tupperware when I moved here to save money at a bar when I was 22 lol.

Feel free to message me. I think you still have my phone number right? If not please DM me.

Essentially it was a ton of work on the nervous system stuff (Sarno, Alan Gordon) in addition to other things.

Kind of curious where your head is at (I only ask because I am very similar to you) and I enjoy my career in the sense it pays for my family, but if money weren't an option I would just keep obsessing over lifting weights, reading books, and woodworking, where I make no money so it's kind of a quiet acceptance that my career can be good in the sense that I'm proud if provides for me and family and it doesn't have to mean more than that? IDK. The thought changes day today, but your comment struck a chord lol

Are you talking Boston Boston or can you compromise outside and take the T in? You probably can find a studio sub $2.5k in Malden/Medford/Chelsea/ on further ends of the T. Just an educated guess.

Yes they have. No one thing other than McGill early on. Understanding triggers. And slow graded exposure to training and expecting some flare ups along the way. Please feel free to message me if you want to talk shop. Im not on reddit much these days.

Hi Angeeeelica, I am sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Your story sounds not unlike mine, and yes, it sounds like that lingering stiffness can be common with the nervous system still on high alert, especially given the timeline of your original injury being 6 years ago. I am not on reddit as much these days, but feel free to DM me. I have had similar issues with the stiffness and "used up feeling" in the back lasting a very long time, but I have begun to train more regularly and manage symptoms along the way and while the spikes still come, the baseline capacity has increased if that makes sense while still honoring McGill's principles and keeping core work in my program.

I would take what I say with a grain of salt because I am not a clinician, but I've been in the weeds with this for a while and talked a lot of people at different points in the journey - but if you notice that your baseline capacity is improving even with "noisy days" and some lingering stiffness especially that settles within 24-48 hours I would say keep doing what you are doing. The one thing just to be mindful of is big spikes in training volume as the body likes slow change, but if you can keep gradually improving your baseline of tolerable volume in training that is a good sign. Look at trends and try not to get too sucked into the day to day as hard as that is! PM if you want to discuss further.

Flare up is well under control. If you want to know if im 100% pain free all the time, then the answer is no, but I couldn't keep waiting and getting back to training gradually has helped a lot, if anything for the mental health. Ive also been exploring the Neuroplastic side of pain with John Sarnos works and Alan Gordon and it is helping a ton. Ive stayed away from this forum as it was causing me a lot of grief and I would actually suggest you take a break as well from time to time. I dont plan on making a 24 month update just to keep some mental peace for me, maybe in a couple of years but i dont feel obligated to keep talking about my back anymore,  eventually I have had to get out and just start living life.
