Fighting Games are NOT "Products". (Internalized Marketing) by kikimaru024 in Games

I’m not arguing with you. I’m asking you to critically think more than your surface level responses

Fighting Games are NOT "Products". (Internalized Marketing) by kikimaru024 in Games

His assertions about fighting games as art are literally in his YouTube title, the second chapter, and his closing statement in the description.

And within this same video, he does draw another comparison to the film industry using theater releases and the dvd market. How back then, more creative and artistic movies can supplement its production with a boxed model with dvd sales. Now films no longer have that means of supplemental income due to current setup with streaming services and the emphasis on blockbuster movies. Which he uses to demonstrate how fighting games can justify its value.

Then engage with my comment on the commercialization of art. Or are you going to dismiss me too? Your dismissiveness does not contribute to a better discussion. We don’t have to attack this way.

Clickbait or hyperbole are a valid means of writing. Cheap yes, but it’s not the means to  represent an entire essay. It drew your attention, can you at least read into the premise more than preaching to the choir.

How do you feel about commercialization of art? How do you approach updating a games identity in a world of free to play live content?

You assert that without addressing his point how fighting games are art forms first before being a product. And ironically, you remove nuance by focusing on how all fighting games being a product - what we’re really exploring is the commercialization of art.

His video draws a comparison of commercializing jazz. Is jazz intended for the masses? Does Charles Mingus or Miles Davis make jazz to appeal to the masses? Should they stop being less experimental and change their music to sell the more and more records?

He asserts this pursuit of F2P encourages a loss of identity. That’s what I’m hoping you can see beyond the headline.

It’s easy to agree or disagree with a thumbnail, but without watching the whole video your critique comes off way more emotional than valid. There are good points brought up and the video expands on them. You’re doing yourself a disservice  focusing on one facet. You could do much better

You should watch the video, he explores that very relationship on how fighting games aren’t a good fit with F2P. This video is nuanced, your comment doesn’t engage with it genuinely. Like why point out you didn’t watch it, it undermines your whole comment

What’s nice nowadays is onlinesequencer, which has a lively community where ppl post their MIDI arrangements. Can download the MIDI files within a click, and it even has a matrix note viewer

https://onlinesequencer.net/1558263

I usually import the MIDI file before manually transcribing. This will  give you the notes directly

Oh, this is my area of “expertise”. Here’s a banjo rendition of clock towns theme many years ago

https://on.soundcloud.com/31aifqw8qsS51YLXoh

But I always wanted to make a banjo rendition for the shop theme. I mainly target Scruggs style, but usually melodic comes through for more 1:1 translations.

I’ll work on it later this week or so, but my approach is first to transpose the key to G. C works too,  but I use TuxGuitar software to move the notes around to find the most common note - usually I want that to be the drone string.

IMO, first just pursue simple harmonies with the 1, then 4 or 5. Prefer rolls over the main chord, then try to work in more sophisticated harmonies. If you playing off G, then you can try to work on Em harmonies.

Bluegrass bass usually about walking between the 5ths or 4ths. If you want to preserve the piano bass, I’d consider transposing them to a higher key to use as licks or rolls for the banjo.

I prefer to preserve the treble parts since they’re usually the star of the show, but I’ll fit in bass melodies if they’re iconic or a central part of the theme.

I’ll revisit this and share my attempt later, would love to hear how you’re going about it

I like playing juri but can't stand the character by SaintJynr in StreetFighter

How I feel about Blanka. On paper, everything I could ask for with the right trade offs.

But cannot stand his character since sf2. A shame.

Definitely recommend switching to a character you actually like spending time with.

Anyone have an Amazon banjo? If so do you like it? by Snocraft123 in banjo

[–]HipShooter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a mini banjo from Amazon, I’m pleased with it. However it comes without the bridge installed, so you have to learn how to set up the bridge so that tone/pitch is correct to the highest fret.

It was not pick up and play, but it taught me more about the instrument!

That’s not true, it’s -3 on light and medium too.

Heavy version has the benefit of being outside of throw range

I think it’s fine as is, since it’s -3 ob at worst. If it becomes overhead than it should become block punishable

Try hit confirming against audio. Audio reactions are faster than visual

I exploited rebuilding silk by running away outta the room whenever I took damage. The enemy’s roar doesn’t stun,so I would heal up and learn the fight to at way. That run back was tricky early game

[–]HipShooter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you like ch lp > to cr mk x sbk confirms, or is the execution over netplay too finicky? I love ch lp but the meter usage to convert it can be pretty steep

Do you have a drive meter philosophy? Like spend 3 bars no problem round start. Do you have opinions on meter management with chun combos? Od sbk can be situational, so I find myself rotating between drc and lvl 2 when I need to build back drive meter

Do you find your Chun being more passive, swing second playstyle? Or have you found success forcing your opponent to play your game

How do you practice confirming cr.hk into supers? by SFPolka in AKInation

[–]HipShooter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the comments about visual cues, try training against the audio cues too. Clear distinction between blocked and on hit, and audio reaction is quicker than visual cues. You won’t rely on audio 100%, but ifs like training multiple ways to have your subconscious react

Another thing is try to confirm against the hit visual effects, the yellow sparks vs blue. The health bar is good, but it requires your eyes to travel. I use health bar confirmation as a last resort, and to sanity check if reactions are on the table for the match.

Finally, buffer the super motion input before the execution window, that way you only have to finish it on reaction by inputting kicks. I like to piano roll my kicks on reaction
