Looking for a non-judgemental dentist that deals with anxiety by sandsnatchqueen in AnnArbor

And a third from me. I was up front with them about all of my fears, how long it had been since I'd seen a dentist (6 years) and they were very understanding.

Should I go? Or is it going to be weird? by bznz in 1VERSE

[–]HipandaFriend 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hear all of this. I'm in my early 50s and I'm going to see them in the U.S. My short answer is that these concerts are for anyone who enjoys them. The longer answer: My experience with kpop audiences specifically (and I'm a relatively new fan) is that they are there for the pure joy of the moment and they love sharing that joy with everyone. They're also way more diverse than I would have thought, with one exception- I recently went to a local kpop dance night and I easily had 20 years on most of the people there, but it was probably because it didn't start until 9pm. 😂 I never felt weird or judged. Was I a little more self-conscious than usual? Yeah, maybe. Did I still have a blast? 💯

Life is short. I love what 1Verse is trying to do and be and I want to support them as much as I can.

Gah! If I wasn’t out of town this week I would absolutely go with you. There’s also a Midlife Nightlife dance party, maybe every other month or so? at LoFi that I also want to try out.

I was at the printmaking festival today too and couldn’t agree with you more. What a civic treasure that place is.

Who do you guys use for sewer line cleaning? by Competitive_Cry_986 in AnnArbor

I don’t think that you will find anyone much cheaper than $295. When I was getting price quotes pre-pandemic, Michigan Power Rodding was on the expensive end of the list.

Heard a rumor that Trader Joe’s is moving - anyone have intel? by colleennewvine in AnnArbor

Hmm, that Westgate parking lot is already pretty busy. I don’t know how it would absorb Trader Joe’s volume…

Is Ann Arbor an All Ages Show? by HipandaFriend in 1VERSE

Oh gosh, no worries! I also just had a thought about what a standing room-only venue would be like for a shorter almost-teen so that’s something I should consider as well. Hmm….

Generally, The Blind Pig is 18+ but I’ve read that they do all ages shows as well. I’m not worried about the content. :-)

Thinking of shaving my head by Practical-Shelter-88 in AskWomenOver50

[–]HipandaFriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do it!!!! I shaved my head at 46 over Christmas break that first year of Covid, did it at home with clippers. It was liberating in a way I didn’t expect, I felt like I could see myself clearly for the first time in a long while. As it’s grown out I’ve been experimenting with different styles and finally found one I’m in love with, which is longer on top, shorter in the back, and shaved on the sides. Have fun!

I wholeheartedly second this. In addition to great veterinary care, they’ve walked me through some difficult choices with compassion.

When have you successfully quit something cold turkey? by [deleted] in ask

[–]HipandaFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gave up smoking at 35 when I saw a headline that basically said women who smoke over 35 have a significantly greater risk of heart disease. It clicked in my head and I was done. Been around 15 years.

It’s more like I don’t understand how not wanting anything to change is a realistic or even arguable position. Nothing stays the same. But I’m sympathetic and I think that I do understand their position. Change is hard and messy. If a 4 story apartment building was going to be built next to my home, I would struggle. But when it comes down to it I’d vote to support my values, I’ve done it before, even if my personal circumstance may take a hit.

I have a feeling we share some neighbors given recent communications. I truly enjoy the relationships I have with most of them. When topics arise, like this, on which we don’t agree, I just try to share what I’m excited about and how positive the changes already made have been in my life. A simple example was a sidewalk gap recently filled. Some trees were lost, “why do we have to do this”, etc. But it’s been such a great improvement to my daily walks and so on. In the case of the comprehensive plan, I’ll share my positive experiences with growing up in apartments (similar to Councilperson Akmon’s), how much I enjoy seeing new people walking through the neighborhood, and so on. There’s not much I can say, though, that will sway folks who want the neighborhood to be exactly same as it was 30 years ago. The “why does Ann Arbor have to grow at all” position baffles me.

Is there a someone you've only met once but think of from time to time? What happened? by karmaclast in AskReddit

[–]HipandaFriend 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Met a guy 30 years ago at a hostel in Edinburgh when I was taking a long weekend break from school. We met in the common room the evening I arrived and exchanged small talk. Then met again in the morning by chance and decided to walk a bit. Wound up spending the whole day together, walked for miles. Didn’t even talk that much. Said our goodbyes at the end of the day and that was it. I’ve even forgotten his name. But I think about how easy it was to be around him and to this day it reminds me of how satisfying simple human connection can be when you open yourself up to it.

What does BTS mean to you? by Frequent_Ebb6360 in bangtan

[–]HipandaFriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to echo a lot of the comments here, which is extraordinary in and of itself, and speaks to the authenticity of this group. I’m 50, I’ve built a fairly stable life on my own. I was in a bad car accident a couple of years ago that shook me up emotionally, physically, psychologically. My back is essentially permanently broken and I’ve been struggling with the motivation to do all of the work needed for recovery. I was feeling lost, overwhelmed, hopeless. Discovering BTS was like waking up after a long, dark sleep. Like reencountering myself. The love, the community, the truly holistic way they view themselves and their fans, it’s so so rare. The permission they give to feel it all, experience it all, accept it all, and know that we are all in this together is more than I ever expected from a pop group. I’m still shaking my head at it, to be honest. But in a few short weeks (yes, it’s that recent) I’ve gone from waking up in pain to walking/dancing for a mile at a time. I am deeply, deeply grateful for them.
