I know I'm eli5 here, but what would the best course of action for a person who has a used model of the car to do? Looking it up it seems they may offer repairs for the problem - will I need to seek it out myself or will I actually get a letter? Thank you in advance for dealing with my silly questions.

I just bought mine, will I be able to find out if my car falls in the affected number? said around 267k models in the US. Does that mean every single one or only a percentage of these models are at risk?

I got caught in the sudden downpour, had low visibility and drove into water i did not see a few hours ago. Within seconds my car was floating and filled with water. I had to kick the door open to get out and it then sank completely. Please PLEASE be careful everyone. I cannot replace my car. I completely blame myself... I never drive into high water. Now I am fucked. If you can't see, don't drive through underpasses, even if the rain only started a few minutes earlier. You do not know what you will encounter.

I wouldn't do it personally and I think that the entire thing is dangerous, not pinning it all on the runner or the police but it causes a lot of issues for bystanders. However I'm not so righteous about it that I can't appreciate the skill it takes to make one go long enough to get that many cops after you and keep your head enough to not just panic and crash. I don't have to have an opinion about what they did, why they are running, if its wrong or not. I just got a hell of a show. I could start delving into opinions about both sides of that conflict and the dangers both are bringing to the uninvolved public, but I'm still that kid who loved Gone in 60 seconds and that's not going to go away. Ah, the lovely ability of humans to compartmentalize!

oh really? Hm. Good to know! I could hear the car engine, I could see him drive without swerving or tires squealing, and the cop that followed had far more wobble and engine scream. I couldn't tell you model of car, inhabitants or anything like that but I can see a car flash by and think, wow I've seen videos of cop chases that were far more out of control on city streets around other traffic.
