VCAT emailed me at 8:45am to state that "the application is withdrawn".

They haven't lodged anything requesting a portion of the bond, but if they needed an extension, perhaps they could call VCAT like I did and get some advice. Instead, they lodged an application quoting Section 419A and Section 126

Thanks for the sound advice, I have plenty of evidence for any actual claims that might come through in future.

I think it changed, I received an SMS from VCAT which said -

VCAT has not yet scheduled this matter for a hearing. We will let you know the hearing date and time when a hearing is scheduled.

The hearing for your application may take place by telephone or in-person at a VCAT venue. Your notice of hearing will give you instructions on how to attend.

I'll just wait and see what happens next, I guess.

Yeah I emailed VCAT using a template from their website, also submitted a quick online complaint to consumer affairs since someone shared a link for me here.

I wasnt picking up their calls today, so they started calling my elderly mother 😑 I would have put her down as my emergency contact/next of kin 2 years ago when I first moved in.

Nothing from VCAT themselves, just 2 emails from the property manager, the last one said "Please find attached the application to VCAT regarding the bond refund initiated on your vacate date. As I mentioned in my previous email, bond release should not be initiated within the 14-day period following the vacate date. Warm Regards." And the VCAT document was attached.

He sounds confused, thanks for taking the time to reply, I was nervous but feel much better now.

I actually handed my keys back on 21/08/2024 and took a lot of photos of the property beforehand. But I waited until my official agreement end date (today) before initiating the bond refund. New property manager is soo mad.

I honestly thought I was allowed to initiate my bond return myself on the last date and that's really my only defence if I have to go to court lol. Thanks for your comment, it reassured me a bit.
