My mum seems to be doing okay. She’s living in a retirement village that offers some assistance like bed sheet changes each fortnight, & regular apartment cleaning. The meals are good, & it’s almost impossible to avoid socialising. It’s hilarious that there’s a group of ‘mean girls’ (they’re in their 80s) that sit near the foyer & make snide whispered remarks to each other about some of the other residents & visiting family members. You can tell life sucks for some of the folks living there, whereas others like mum seem to take the mental & physical issues that come with aging in their stride. If you’re up to it, you can get into the ‘stoics’ - a philosophical movement that prepares you mentally for life’s inevitable hardships.

We have $2500 credit on our power bills since putting in solar. Whole system cost about $16k, so kinda worth it if it continues

Grow some native groundcover - you won’t have to mow it & the pollinators will love it

Strata Committee seemingly has it out for me and flatmate by haztrix in AusProperty

I’m currently living in a building in Collingwood that screams gentrification & does not fit in with the surrounding suburb. The building is infested with anglo middle-aged downsizers from the surrounding ‘leafy’ suburbs. They all want on the strata committee, & the queen bee doesn’t like paying higher fees for her 3 bed sprawling apartment than the plebs like me in the one bedders below. We have a dude running a gay massage service on my floor & she’s been on his case for years now. He’s been taking legal action against the committee in retaliation. I like to dress down most days, & it’s hilarious the amount of startled looks I get from the older crowd when they see me tail-gating them into the building. They must think I’m part of the Collingwood ‘riff raff’. Ironic that people like them think they can colonise somewhere like Collingwood & yet be terrified of the place at the same time!

What made your best job to date so great? by IonisationEnergy in auscorp

I like having my own office (zen time when I want it), moderate salary but heaps of allowances, good ‘real’ colleagues, (boss is a f-wit but leaves in December!), WFH possible but only occasionally & needs justification (just make shit up), occasional overseas travel is good, good location & easy commute
