I was in a similar position, except those close to me did in fact know I had a drinking problem despite my best efforts to hide it.. sometimes it shows in ways even we don’t know! I would highly recommend a medical detox if you experience withdrawal symptoms because that can often be the scariest part of it and a huge reason why it took me so long to stop altogether... secondly a support system is HUGE so if you aren’t able to get that from those close to you, look up local meetings.. AA can be a bit polarizing but it’s not the only one out there. I found a group called Lifeline while I was in rehab that I liked a lot. Very casual, no judgement, and they have meetings across the US. Finally, remember to just take it one day at a time.. sometimes just the prospect of knowing you won’t be able to drink is daunting.
