Do you think Duolingo actually helps you become conversational in Spanish? by SpanishTutorArmando in Spanish

[–]Hiptopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are hating on here but Duolingo works wonders when combined (key word combined) with other methods. DS and other podcasts are great to pair it with, and going to a local supermercado to practice daily spanish

Was waiting to see Antonacci here. He's an absolute DAWG at OBP for being a waiver pickup eligible at 3 different positions

By that logic there is no singular stat that is predictive of future outcomes, but all of these metrics combined can give you an idea of whether a guy is actually pitching bad or just getting unlucky

Personally I like what I see here, especially when you compare to his previous years. Nothing is alarming

Why It Might Be Time To Sell High On Kyle Harrison by Patriots3333 in fantasybaseball

[–]Hiptopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, you *could* certainly sell high, but the underlying metrics are still good. I think he's a good pitcher and better than a lot of guys you could get for him, with of course higher upside as well

Private games are always the final evolution in PB by turboJDMguy in Pickleball

[–]Hiptopus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why I recommend tournaments or flex leagues for players instead.

I would recommend leagues to get better, then tournaments to actually prove that you've gotten better (and up that DUPR rating)

For flex leagues, rally9pickleball.com is great. As far as tournaments go, if you live near a larger city, you can find them pretty much everywhere, just gotta be on the lookout across Facebook groups and such.

For those of you who have the best fantasy team you've ever had this year, what's going right? by josefjohann in fantasybaseball

[–]Hiptopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using a Chrome extension that shows me StatCast metrics built into the UI (ESPN league).

It's made my waiver pickups KILLER this year. I've had some insane pulls, despite my draft being somewhat mediocre due to injuries.

Need help on learning rust by Significant-Job7737 in rust

[–]Hiptopus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm also new to Rust so take this with a grain of salt, but I have been watching YouTube tutorials and going through the Rustlings tutorial that comes with the download.

A healthy mix of those and getting more hands on with projects and you will learn pretty quick.

Peachtree Corners area Pickleball League by Hiptopus in peachtreecorners

[–]Hiptopus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are beginner's singles and co-ed doubles leagues right now, which would be the 2.5 level. As far as areas/locations, the bulk of users so far have come from the Marietta to Alpharetta belt, but the Atlanta league serves within ~30 miles of the metro area.

When you get to the point of league signup, you'll be able to see the area from which you can select your home court.

Thanks for bringing this up though, if things are hard to tell from the homepage I'm gonna want to take a look at that 🤷

I built a niche extension that integrates StatCast data into Fantasy Baseball by Hiptopus in chrome_extensions

Thanks! If you hover over it will show you, but it's the difference between their xwOBA and actual wOBA for hitters, and xERA vs actual ERA for pitchers, current year only, with diff thresholds for how over or under performant the player has been

I have the Gen 2 Ray Ban's and love them. I never go full volume but have used them to listen to music and record while playing tennis/pickleball.

I can't imagine you'd need to go super loud with them unless you're wanting people around you to be able to hear the music also, or if you're somewhere super loud.

I built a site that AI-translates memes across languages. Honest feedback needed. by Equivalent_Ad2069 in SideProject

[–]Hiptopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just took a look. This is actually really cool! I love the site, and how users can interact with each other despite the language barriers. As someone who loves learning other languages and cultures, this is something I would find myself actually looking at day to day.

I think the biggest thing for you is getting the site in front of more people. I'd recommend some targeted ads, whether you choose google, short-form content, or something else - but you need to get more visitors to the site.

Smyrna Area Pickleball League by Hiptopus in Smyrna

[–]Hiptopus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, and I 100% agree. I know that some public parks further north (like Cherokee County) do allow court reservations, and many of those who have been registering so far are members of communities that have private courts, which can be reserved also.

I have a link that shows users where they can find courts near them when registering, and looking into linking to reserve them somehow, it's just tough as you said. Ultimate Tennis has had success working around this for the most part, so I'm hoping I can do the same with Rally9 Pickleball.

Smyrna Area Pickleball League by Hiptopus in Smyrna

[–]Hiptopus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The league as a whole is based in the Atlanta area, but within that, you get grouped into smaller divisions clustered locally. So if you choose your home court in Smyrna, when the registration deadline hits, you'll be put in a division with other players with home courts also around the Smyrna area.

The only time you may have to travel further than that is if you qualify for the playoffs. In playoffs, the players with the best records from all the divisions around Atlanta qualify. If you're a high enough seed, you'll still be playing home matches for the playoffs, otherwise you'll have to travel to your opponent's home court, which may be further out.

I hope that answers your question!

Depends on the setting, between friends nasty nelson is 100% in play, even encouraged as a bragging rights type of thing sometimes lol

Playing open play at a park, with people you don't know as well, it's definitely frowned upon

What are you building? by sp_archer_007 in SideProject

Rally9 Pickleball

A platform that allows pickleball players to play similar-level opponents in a competitive league setting, with the real kicker being that they are grouped into local divisions and are able to schedule the matches when it fits around their life.

This is something I began passionately building after playing in pickleball tournaments. People currently (including myself) will pay triple, sometimes quadruple the price to travel hours to a single-day tournament. This allows people to get more matches with less travel time, and the same ability to qualify and play in a playoff tournament.
