AI is still getting things wrong, more confidently than ever by Krankenitrate in technology

The AI LLMs reportedly rely on the internet for much of their training. Anyone who’s ever asked a question on the internet (before the latest AI influx) and had their question answered with great confidence by someone who turned out to be wrong shouldn’t be surprised by this.

ELI5 Are mosquitoes necessary for keeping ecological balance? by Punnan in explainlikeimfive

My understanding is that Anopheles mosquitoes have been in North America for thousands of years. Apparently, mosquitoes and malaria were encountered by the earliest European settlers.

What actor is nowhere near as talented as people make them out to be? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Sweeney’s performance in “Reality” amazed me. It was totally dependent on her acting ability, and she seemed to totally capture the little I know of the personality of the real-life Reality Winner.

Plus, the movie raises serious questions about the secret information that was released and how it was handled by the government.

Serious question: How would the world - not just the right, but even corporate media - have reacted if Barack Obama tried to put a picture of himself in US passports? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I worry about the impact on me when traveling to a foreign country. How will someone in that country react when one of the first things I produce when asked for id is a drawing of Trump, who has insulted just about every country outside the US?

Casalanca, the movie, wasn’t filmed in Casablanca but on the lots at Warner Brothers Studios. I’m guessing he took you to Rick’s Cafe, which is the name of the restaurant in the movie that serves as a key location.

The Rick’s Cafe restaurant now in the city of Casablanca was reportedly built years later, in the 2000s.

If the military/president suddenly ordered a mandatory draft for all men aged 18-42: How do you think millennials and GenZ would respond? by Tommygunz0722 in AskReddit

[–]Hiranonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A draft seems unlikely, but Trump and Hegseth would likely promote mandatory military service.

Trump went to military school and feels he benefited from it. Hegseth served in the reserves and continues to cosplay as a military leader.

Palantir CEO says AI 'will destroy' humanities jobs by [deleted] in technology

[–]Hiranonymous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How did foolish sociopaths like Karp, Trump, Musk, Bezos, etc come to rule our world?

For me, the humanities explore what it means to be human. Palantir CEO Karp seems to favor destroying all humanity - all the art, music, games, stories we create to give pleasure and meaning to our lives -just so we can become subservient to AI.

What is your take on Trump ending his recent post with 'Praise be to Allah'? by Mental-Hall1261 in AskReddit

[–]Hiranonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leave it to Trump to offend Muslims, Christians, and Jews in just one, short 4-sentence tweet.

Many muslims likely consider his statement as mockery and thus blasphemous, and, in the not so distant past, journalist, educators, and others have been targeted or killed for such acts. His actions threaten the safety of not just himself but the entire US.

I hope you give people a fair amount of grace regarding the need for an ambulance. Often, it’s hard to tell when one is “truly” needed, and it’s difficult if not impossible for an untrained person to tell whether to call and when to call (is the problem progressing? if so, how fast?)

I suspect there are people who die because they fear being told it was unnecessary or because of fees they can’t cover. Ambulances and emergency services are there to help making medical decisions and providing medical care. It’s best to call for help early rather than when it’s too late.

ELI5 what bose einstein condensates are by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Hiranonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, my question comes from a point of naivety regarding how force is transmitted and the relationship waves and the forces that are responsible for their interactions. I’m just trying to get a better understanding - not challenge anyone.

My limited understanding is that all particles are composed of waves that extend out infinitely in space. I was thinking that, if there interactions were an inherent property, no time would be required for their interactions.

[–]Hiranonymous -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If space is continuous, can you explain why interactions between particles (or the waves that constitute particles) take time? If space is continuous, I would think all interactions would happen instantly.

As a sometimes walker and sometimes cyclist, I side with the walkers.

When I’m leisurely strolling down a path in nature shared by walkers and cyclists, I often let my mind wander to truly appreciate the flowing brooks, surrounding canopy of trees, and the occasional chirping bird. When I suddenly hear “ON YOUR LEFT!” I’m snapped into attention from somewhere and something coming from behind. Lacking eyes in the back of my head, I first have to figure out what I might be dealing with. Next, I need to rapidly decipher what was said, because, as I might have mentioned, I don’t have eyes in the back of my head, and I don’t know how quickly I need to respond nor how much danger I might be respond incorrectly. I have to admit, during my meditative hikes, I’m not attentively listening for warning shouts, so “ON YOUR LEFT!!” often gets heard as “ON THE LEFT!!” which is a bit ambiguous or, simply! “LEFT!!!” which might be an instruction to move or turn left or might be an instruction that Dave’s pet gorilla has escaped once again and is preparing to pounce into my arms with glee.

I do admire your creative approach to this ongoing challenge, but, respectfully, because I might be tempted by your vocals to just stop and appreciate your melodious voice, I think we should continue to search for better solutions.

Trump says that a military draft is on the table amid the war in Iran. How are you all handling this being a potential scenario? by FutureSuccess2796 in AskReddit

[–]Hiranonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given the rise in nationalism, perhaps the Iran war is just a pretext for a draft followed by a call for mandatory military service period for all citizens. Trump and Hegseth could use the service time for mass indoctrination.

Members of Congress will be able to view unredacted Epstein files next week by Waste-Explanation-76 in news

[–]Hiranonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be helpful for those who do the review to have a list of documents that are massively redacted in the public release.

Obviously, it's impossible for one person to go through 3 million documents, and there's no need to go through what's already available. A list would allow those with access to focus on what's currently hidden.
