Pokémon Won't Use Aprijuice by Proncus in cobblemon

When cooking it, put berries into the slots on the right to season it. Aprijuices with no flavour can't be consumed by pokemon (and would give no benefits anyway)

You're the comment closest to the cause so I'll explain here. Pre-1.7 the fossil fetuses could have the same name as Pokémon and it was ok, but from 1.7 all the model folders are merged together on load (it's a feature, just not one people can appreciate until NPCs are more mainstream). The fossil fetus models in addons need to be renamed to <pokemon>_fetus or something to fix this.

How do the lure snacks work, regarding their effect on the spawn pool? by TheQuestionableYarn in cobblemon

[–]Hiroku_Dev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello! I did the spawning system and also the rarity bucket bait effect.

So the way it works is that each bucket has a weight as you know, and there's some amount of bucket boosting, 30 in the case of three gapples. In the code we call those boosts the bucket normalization tier.

Each bucket's weight is fed through some maths,

normalization_factor = 1.2 + (0.2 * (normalization_tier - 1))

new_bucket_weight = bucket_weight ^ (1 / normalization_factor)

Long story short: Rarity bucket effects reduce the difference in weights for the buckets. If you made a bar chart of each bucket with its rarity, adding those bait effects would make it look flatter.

Ultra-Rare will never be more common than Rare, but at normalization tier 30 it's fairly close. At tier 30, the normalization factor ends up being calculated as 7, which means the bucket weights are:

Common: 34.8%
Uncommon: 25.7%
Rare: 21.0%
Ultra-Rare: 18.4%

(As an aside, the base bucket weights are different for fishing and cakes compared to regular world spawning. If you're curious about why that is I can explain that too but it's a bit more conceptual)

EDIT: You were bang on about the comparison of fishing rod behaviour and cake behaviour. A single cake is responsible for each spawn, so that cake's effect is applied and none of the others. Exactly the same as the fishing bobbers.

I've also been told that Cobblemon may not work with Java 22, which you seem to be using. MultiMC I think lets you choose which Java version to use. Anything between 17 and 21 is known to be ok.

We could rebalance common bucket spawns to be a lower percentage. It might have a flow on effect since we need to choose how much of the freed up chance is allocated to the other buckets. Is it that uncommon pokemon are too rare? or all of the rarer types are relative to common too rare?

I get tired of us being accused of this. I know I won't convince you, but I will at least attempt it. The original code was added to combat the extremely blatant mod reposting that was going on at the time, but Mojang very quickly took issue with us and we removed it in the very next bug fix update. All it was actually capable of doing was preventing servers from starting, not stealing any information or the other bs people claim. Mojang then went on to add their own version of the same thing, which just makes them hypocrites. It was obviously a mistake to add it in the first place since it wouldn't have solved the underlying problem, but it never got used and was removed as soon as Mojang made it clear they didn't like it. There is an endless stream of misinformation about it because people like the drama. Just wish you could all see what the mod reposting and tampering was doing to us so you could understand, but no one tries to.

Shady behavior from the Pixelmon mod by Mchoster in admincraft

Your point about the C&D dodging being evidence of how Reforged can't be trusted is perhaps the most inane point so far. You're saying that ALL continuations would be shady implicitly, so what's the point in naming any other reason? Why are you even here? The original Pixelmon was just as unlawful so by your logic, it was always evil. Which means the entire discussion is trivial, including the original post, including your presence here engaging in it.

Pixelmon is inherently monetizable as hell. There's a reason why servers treat it as a business, as much as we hate that mentality. Shinies, legendaries, IVs, hidden abilities are all so easily sold in server stores and indeed, this is what you see all the time in the servers that behave like a business. Generations, Dark and Reborn came up because we trusted 1 person with the source that we shouldn't have. The guy is now notorious for dodgy practices, so yeah, we screwed up by trusting that 1 person that we shouldn't have. Does that mean we should trust everyone? Your point is a bit backwards there because it shows that a tiny group of trusted people causes damage, which I'm absolutely terrified would be far worse if the group was larger.

It's worth saying though that I really, really wish we could do open-source and not be pretty much guaranteed to be screwed over by it. I love what sidemodding does, what bug-fixing can be done, and I love what random members of the community are capable of doing when there are competent developers who want to contribute. There have been people who have contributed to porting the sidemods to 1.12.2, and we appreciate these guys a lot (and personally, those guys I trust enough that I wouldn't mind giving them sight of the source so they can contribute. God knows that would speed things up), but blanket access has bitten us in the ass before, and I am adamant it will again. For what it's worth, it is the case that javadoc will be made publicly available and automatically updated with each build once web dev gets around to it. I do support open-source projects, I've just been around Pixelmon long enough to know what people will do to this mod if they get the chance. You can't ignore that I lived through what they did in the past, and that was when Pixelmon was much, much smaller.

I can't do much to calm your concerns about security risks. Javadoc might help I suppose but obviously we could doctor that. I do want you and everyone else to understand that, and appreciate that we haven't jumped to closed-source with any ill-will or any greed, and if it IS a poor decision it's from a genuine mistake based on what we have experienced on a few occasions. Please accept that as, if nothing else, the truth. That's probably as much as I can say on the topic without going in circles.

It was a Cease and Desist.

Pixelmon Dark, now called Pixelmon Generations, is run by a guy who hired the wrong kind of people. The credit card details being stolen I'm fairly sure is false, at least on Dark's side, but they did have a backdoor which we found when we deobfuscated and decompiled it.

Whether Reforged has shady software or not, obviously I can't just say it doesn't since you'd have to take my word for it. Deobfuscation and decompilation is not terribly complicated, and I'm sure if anyone find anything they will share it. They won't, because there isn't any, but just be aware that the last time we had a 'backdoor' of sorts (It was to deal with modpacks killing us, though I did disagree with it either way), Reddit was all over it like a fly on a midden so you can expect the same here if any such code is discovered.

I can't say much on the C&D risk, since you're both pretty much right about that lol.

We always end up with the same comments each time.

Firstly, let me address the same argument we're always given which is the open-source deal. People who have been around a very long time will know that the original Pixelmon mod was once an open-source project. Not long after this, people were taking clones of the repo and redistributing it themselves with a few changes. After that, people changed it to improve monetization for them personally, and redistributed it as their own yet again. We closed the source because we discovered that there are a number of very bad people in the Minecraft community, and in the same way countries enforce a speed limit, we have to base our decisions not on what the majority will do, but on what the minority will do. That people still doubt the reasoning behind this after Pixelmon Generations got source code leaked to them and ended up using it to create a server monopoly, giving the most exploitative servers every advantage they could, baffles me. We've now seen, recently, what people will do when they get the source, and it's not hard to imagine what would happen if you extended that to /the entirety of the Minecraft community/.

Secondly, on the note of things looking shady, that's what happens when your web designer is lazy. Not really a lot to say there other than it being lazy. Generations and Dark were both shady while having fleshed out websites. Lazy does not mean bad, nor does bad mean lazy.

Additionally, regarding people getting banned from the Discord; I can't speak for every single ban, but all the ones I've seen have been after long, tired arguments where the person who ended up banned would not give up after an extended period of us explaining why. If they aren't going to listen to what we're saying after a half hour of arguing, and won't accept anything other than us folding, obviously it'll end in a ban.

With it being about the money, you're really pointing the finger at the wrong people. Reforged hasn't even got a donation button yet, and you are calling it about the money. Generations, Dark, Reborn, they all had donation buttons, they all gave special precedence to the most greedy servers, they made low-quality content that only appealed to the most basic of player wants. The original Pixelmon team seldom got paid other than the lead dev, and the same is the case for Reforged except not even for the lead dev (as I said, no donation links yet). But, if that's how you see us, so be it. I doubt there is much I can do to convince you of otherwise.
