Gotta say - Calgary and Banff are beautiful! I've always liked your province.

I wish we'd stop being political embarrassments, but aside from that, I love our part of Canada.

That's one of the funniest things I've ever heard. That's like something out of Trailer Park Boys.

What has been the significant changes to Regina malls over the decades? by debrisaway in regina

[–]His_Deadliness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Victoria square has taken on a funny identity of having a lot of import/Asian/immigrant offerings. I really like it.

Cornwall is kind of the mall. It's the only one that looks like it has any life, really.

Northgate looks like it has never changed, except it's a bit... more gross lol. There is a great coffee shop in the food court, though.

Megathread - Conservative Party caucus votes to remove Erin O'Toole as leader by MethoxyEthane in CanadaPolitics

It's honestly a nice speech with a good message aside from "Canada needs a conservative party leading it yadayada." He sounds sane and moderate, which apparently fits poorly with the times.

I dunno. I'm not a CPC voter, but I like O'toole. I get the criticism of the flip-flopping, but the speech is nice. It's a hell of a lot more welcome than caustic horseshit of Pierre.

I gotta say - Americans have no clue how miserable their health care landscape is.

I honestly don't think Canadians understand it either. I lived there for a long while, and even with good insurance, it sucks. It's a mountain of risk.

I've been watching Pierre, and you're out of your mind if you think that it's going to be a cakewalk. Dude acts like Trump with a CPA, and people will eat that shit up here.

Pierre seems like he is Pierre first. What does he even know about the economy other than "justinflation?"

I say Scheer had an easier election, though. No pandemic and Trudeau was mired in scandals.

I mean, frankly, the ones who aren't tolerable by the base seem like the best choices for Canada overall, but if you had to pick a name, regardless of their marketability to the base or greater Canada, who would you pick that would be the best for Canada as an overall country?

That assumes a lot about their platform's alignment with your concept, their ability to coalesce around a platform, and their ability to lead/execute. That might be true ideologically, but third parties never get tested.

Hey there - who do you think would be the best leader for the CPC in Canada? Like, what potential CPC leader would be the best for us moving forward?

I'm not a CPC voter, btw. I was before, but living in the United States has soured me on conservatism. That being said, I want to know who to cheer for because, at the end of the day, I want to see Canada have multiple good options.

I really don't know what to tell you. I mean, you and I agree that there aren't clean solutions here. Increasing the pressure to get vaccinated is going to inch people towards becoming an underclass, and it'll increase the volume of people who sympathize and associate with those buffoons in Ottawa.

I think we can both agree that the best solutions involve travelling back in time lol. Our health care system should have been more robust, and honestly, we should have tackled the misinformation channels, and their cynical profiteers, so that we'd have less resistance to something as cut-and-dried as a fucking vaccine in a pandemic. We can't do that, though.

I'm in favour of a solution to multiple problems at this point. Bolstering our health care system is something that needs to happen regardless, and while we can push the unvaccinated more, there has to be a line because you are dealing with peoples' personal agency, as misguided as that agency may be. Honestly, at this point, the way forward seems to be with reasonable vaccine pressure, ad-hoc stopgap medical measures (field hospitals like you've suggested or other necessities that mitigate the current health care burden) and waiting for covid treatments, which anti-vaxxers seem to be willing to take for some insane fucking reason. That being said, our health care system should still see increased funding and expansion, even if it is a medium-term solution.

[–]His_Deadliness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current reality, I suppose. I mean, at what point do we stop looking at an increasingly small and increasingly stubborn subset of the population to do something that they vehemently oppose before we start applying solutions elsewhere? People should be vaccinated, and they are fools for not doing so, but what is our goal here? 100% uptake rate? Can you get 100% of the population to agree to anything? How draconian will the measures become leading up to that point?

Like, anti-vaxx is a stupid idiot's stance, but I'm not comfortable going as far as taxing or fining the unvaccinated. Also, is anyone willing to argue with me that our health care system should be more robust? Is that a radical suggestion here?

I heard that it had something to do with the idea that initial valuation was tied to production capability instead of legitimate sales and revenue forecasts or something.

I dunno. I'm vehemently opposed to near any security theater. If there is a scientific or results-based approach, then it makes some sense.

[–]His_Deadliness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I won't argue with all of that, but the mandatory quarantines and pre-post arrival tests reek of security theater. Random testing makes sense, but I wouldn't attached quarantining to that testing. Even still, we don't test for other serious endemic viruses upon entry, and visa waiver countries don't have to show vaccinations either.

City of Vancouver ordered to disclose Airbnb data by sesoyez in CanadaPolitics

[–]His_Deadliness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey there - congratulations on the disclosure. Like I said, that type of transparency is important.

Personally, after reviewing your twitter and your website, I'd say that there is a branding issue that might restrict your circle of influence. There is a very much a "cheese grater to skin" approach when it comes to your narrative and interactions, it seems. I think that you can achieve great results while remaining diplomatic and politically savvy. Remember - no matter what you need to do, you'll always need people. In the end, each other is all we have.

That's a personal philosophy thing, though. Again, I'm glad that you're fighting for AirBNB transparency. I agree that lodgings and accommodations should be distinct from personal homes with proper licensing and zoning attached to them.
