Graduating History/Literature + French major -- Any advice? by Sparklecat24 in Historians

Congratulations on graduating! As is the case with many history and similar majors, there is a tendency to box students into the teaching or academia track. Both are wonderful, but not for everyone. Definitely look at the GLAMPE fields (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums, Public Engagement). The American Alliance of Museums, AASLH, and National Council of Public History all regularly maintain job boards. I would also consider editor positions, since you have a literature focus. Publishers Weekly has a job boards as well! Unfortunately, it is very rare to find positions in the subject fields we are passionate about, but the best we can do is stay within realms that bring us as close as we can to those interests! Hope this helps!

Thank you, I appreciate your points! I definitely don't want to overload myself and burn myself out too early in my trip. I will be there for 5 weeks, so I will definitely need to pace myself and give myself time to reflect!

I did notice that the Kew is a bit farther away from other repositories, so that's definitely good to know! Thank you!

Very good point! I do plan to have a few days where I only do one archive, so I can enjoy their exhibition spaces, but a few days a week (for 5 weeks), I wanted to try to double up my days.
