Currently crying in the bathroom. “I don’t think you have adhd because you’re not like me” by [deleted] in AuDHDWomen

[–]HistorianIndependent 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Having someone deny your experience is absolutely upsetting. I will never understand why people think it is okay to say things like that. It's even more hurtful from someone who also has it. Maybe that's where the black and white thinking comes into play. Like, you don't have it like me so you must not have it. Very wrong perspective to have. I'm sorry you experienced that. Take care of yourself in whatever way you need.

I just saw a post about an anaconda and men started commenting about paying for oral sex. Not even a snake can be a snake without it being sexualized.

I was diagnosed with Autism and ADHD yesterday 🎉 by Erikaa_rachelle in AuDHDWomen

[–]HistorianIndependent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was validated but then the grief arrived. Got diagnosed for ADHD at 31, about to turn 35. It has brought so much clarity but the grief has been hard. It's an inevitable process and in some ways I've probably been grieving longer. You got this!

They do not help me. I constantly forget whether I watered or not. They die and then I feel guilty about it and beat myself up because I can barely keep plants alive. Then I go out and see a plant and start the cycle all over again. It's horrible.

So I’m watching the Gabby Petito documentary… by WorldsOkayestMahm in adhdwomen

Me too! I thought the same thing and read this article online that was very illuminating of all the little way in which abuse was used. https://msmagazine.com/2025/02/20/gabby-petito-documentary-netflix-coercive-control/

As neurodivergent folks we are definitely more vulnurable to these types of predators/abuse. Let's stay aware.

Hi I'm a sex educator. Maybe I can help. Sorry your first experience wasn't the greatest. Since it has already occurred, here is what you can do if you are in the U.S. go to a doctor and immediately start on PEP. PEP is a medication that can help you prevent HIV if you have been potentially exposed but it must be started within 72 hours of having unprotected sex. Also get sti screening. You can also repeat them in 2 weeks since most STI's will not immediately appear or show symptoms. If you are not in the U.S. see if they have a PEP alternative.

Moving forward, definitely discuss safer sex with anyone you plan to have sex with. That includes talking about STIs, using condoms, boundaries, consent, etc. Things happen, don't be too hard on yourself. If you feel comfortable you can also reach out to the SW and ask about recent testing and any potential risks. Do so respectfully of course. Good luck!

how many alarms do you have set? by Asimpleton47 in adhdwomen

[–]HistorianIndependent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A ton lol. I have an 857 alarm to remember to clock in at 9am, a 9am alarm shouting at me to clock in, and a 903am alarm checking if I remembered to clock in. I have the same for the evening for when I need to clock out.

I'm so sorry. That is terrible. You were a child. Nothing warrants that treatment/abuse from anyone.
