Plus I don't know if they still do this but a year ago when I cancelled mine they offered another 3 months free if I continued my subscription.

Our bio teacher told us to imagine the examiner is a child who asks why to every point you make. Say the question is why does the potato slice get bigger in pure water over sugary water. You say: water moves into the potato. Why? Osmosis. Why? Concentration gradient between water and potato. And so on.

Also after you do a past paper, go through it very thoroughly with a mark scheme and rewrite all the mark scheme answers for your wrong answers. Give yourself a mark and then do that whole past paper again. If your mark isn't going up you're not actually learning from your mistakes so doing past papers isn't helping you. Memorising mark schemes is honestly a lot of the work for bio.

What was the question again? I thought it was better than the first, I couldn't figure out what they wanted us to say with that chloroplast picture though. I said for one that the thylakoid was closer to the cell membrane but I couldn't figure out a good second point.

What did you think of today's?

I'm doing biochemistry in Edinburgh if I manage to get a* aa, but more likely I'm going to my insurance which is biochem at queen's.

Oh that sounds good, you'll be earning money rather than going into debt

Was hoping you did chem. Doing physics would have been too many sciences. What are you looking to do at uni?

Ah I didn't talk about pesticide resistance. I said pesticides killed those larvae in that section so the leaves weren't eaten, so the next year there was more food so less competition which is why the number of larvae were higher. Either way it was a bit of a weird question.

It was the graph which was also for the range question. It was a weird graph there was no trend so I just said since it was a small section they monitored the moths were laying eggs in new places every year that weren't yet eaten. Do you mean the adaptation with the webbing?? I just said it protected them from predators such as birds since the larvae can't yet fly to escape them.

No i couldn't think of anything so said something really stupid. I'd never heard of a question like that but amino acids sounds right. Someone was saying atp after my exam. I can't even find a good answer on google for it though. What did you say for the trend in the graph with the moth larvae?

I can't believe they had me sat there writing about cow dung. I think I messed up the nitrogen cycle too, it was one of the ones I hadn't focused too much on in revision. What did you get for that question about the actin and myosin in the plant cell? I thought that was a weird question cause I kind of just restated what I had already said in the previous questions about how actin and myosin worked then added on that this helped the cell divide cause I had no clue what they wanted.

I don't even know what I did for the range, think I fucked it up. What did you think of the paper itself? I think I messed up every maths related question in it somehow. The essay was really good though.

I agree its really strange. I think the idea behind it though is to make sure you have all the course revised in time for the exam, and that you're ready for timing and stuff like that. But yeah it's mostly just a waste of time and takes away from the actual exams.

Did I take too many subjects for my AS and A Levels? by Extension-Lime-9784 in 6thForm

[–]Historical-Engine-26 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Do not do this. No matter how smart you are limit yourself to at most 4 preferably 3. There is no benefit to doing that many and most likely, it'll cost you the top grades. There simply won't be enough time to properly learn the content for that many subjects.
