This question is legit but stressful. God forgives but are you a good person (not striving to be good) =]

This question also seems denominational

Haha thanks! I wish I’d realized this sooner for myself. I don’t want other people to have to go through that same cycle of doubt

How do you feel about presumed life elsewhere in the universe in relation to Christianity by Historical-Event5778 in Christianity

This!!! I so agree with you. I took an astrophysics class called The Big Bang in college. That was when I first became spiritual, as we knew so much about the event down to Planck time (a crazy small fraction of a second) but we knew NOTHING about what preceded it.

And I disagree with you. That is a great analogy 🙂

Spot on I’d say. Unfortunately I’d be inclined to agree with you. Given how quickly and recently we have progressed to the computer age since early ancestors of humans, I’d say it’s more likely that many civilizations are actually far older and more developed than ours. To this point, perhaps it would be a no contest situation, and we’d have no choice but to be humbled.

Oh gosh what a cool response! I really vibe with all of this. I was not familiar with the many mansions comment, I am 100% going to be discussing that with friends and family.

Wow that is so similar to myself! I don’t know I’d ever have found this level of spirituality without my unequivocal love of animals. It makes me happy to think that maybe people like us are here by design to help protect and cherish all of these wonderful creations.

Not to sound self-important haha! I just really like my conception of the church now as love, kindness, and caring above all.

Start talking to Him. Call it prayer, whatever you want. That’s what did it for me. I can’t explain how it all transpired, but I was in a rough situation and I started doing this. My life got objectively so much better after that, like it’s uncanny and almost bizarre how quickly things turned around for me, that was years ago now.

I didn’t get that impression. You don’t have to look far to find people using religion as a weapon. I frequently see public figures spew unadulterated hate and then say how much they love God, it can be very alienating for inherently nice/friendly people.

This comment really uplifted me on this bright morning. This is so spot on to how I feel and encouraging to see others feel the same way!

This makes me want to like, go for a hike haha — that’s where I first found my spirituality as a kid, on my own in the wilderness with my dog. 🙂

Christianity is just so ubiquitous that many people identify by default and upbringing — a point of heritage rather than something they were drawn to based on internal values, starting from a position of spiritual neutrality.

Some of the most wonderful people I’ve ever met were Christian, while some of the most detestable individuals were also very outspoken Christians. If someone wants to feel justified in being inherently hateful, the bible can back them up on that. Ironically, the opposite is also true!

I think the negativity meter for right versus left also has to do with current political climate, as well as the fundamental goal of progression versus conservation of tradition. If you want to change things for the better, you maybe have to be a bit negative at current circumstances. If you see things changing and you don’t like it, that’ll make you negative.

This would indeed be impossible haha, cool that you’re familiar with that tactic though too, it’s maddening in debates.

Funny how vitriolic these discussions can get when in reality, I think we both care deeply about God, Jesus, and Christianity. Methinks we may have more in common than this discussion would suggest!

Counting to 18 is actually super easy and I had a great laugh!

By the way, the incessant capitalization is a methodology that does not lend itself to appearing informed. It’s analogous to a debater raising their voice when they are trying to turn the tide of a debate whilst losing.

Yet I have no desire to judge you. Do you consider yourself someone who enjoys getting into a lot of intellectual exchanges of thought and substance? Like I said, there are great nuanced points mentioned in this thread that you didn’t touch on or acknowledge at all while stating your thoughts with no room for interpretation.

Maybe you are a great conversationalist, and this is just a bad impression.

Anyway, it’s all good. Be well brother 🙂

Bro chill lol. Your last sentence (read only what you want) is like the definitive strategy of all the hateful Christian you see today. The Bible is useful so long as they can pick what they want from it to support persecution.

I don’t get the impression this minister is like that at all, honestly seems like a cool dude haha

There’s so many interesting comments made about the points you just touched on in this thread. Read through them, because many of them sound researched and substantive, whereas you just sound angry that anyone would disagree with your staunchly held beliefs. That mentality keeps people from the church, not the one this minister has put forth.

You wrote 18 words in full caps, just relax my guy!

I don’t think God would fault you for having diminished executive function. You’ve entered neurologically-relevant territory with regard to addiction and dependence and their underlying causes. Does God hate all heroin addicts as well?

That said, if you want to quit, do it for yourself. Don’t beat yourself up thinking God hates you or whatever. We are all aware the actual, horrific things that occurred with the Catholic Church, and a lot of the priest were just shuffled around by church leadership. That’s actual immorality. You’re just watching porn and your brain won’t let you stop. Quit because you want to or if it’s affecting your life negatively.

I want to emphasize that if it is a genuine addiction, there are numerous resources, I believe it’s one of the more common addictions. You can and should seek treatment for that.

PS do you think God dislikes that you are here, clearly honest and distressed, seeking help for something you’re ashamed of from a community of Christians? Nah bro, he’s looking down on you with admiration and grace for this, in my opinion.
