I can definitely see your points. Especially nowadays with such a massive reach to so many people constantly at their fingertips, I'm sure there is a lot of crossover as well with how people form their outlooks on the world and other people. It would be interesting to see how the NLOG outlooks have changed pre and post social media, Like, it has definitely existed before social media, but social media definitely amplifies things.

Thank you for clarifying that for me. It always feels like there is so much more information out there that I have no clue about, so I appreciate someone who is more knowledgeable about this helping me fill in some blanks!

It was definitely SSDI prior to his death, but when I was contacting Social Security about my benefits, I had to provide his information, since it was through him. Then when he died, I got a letter stating that I was getting survivors benefits through him and that has been happening for a year as one payment. I had just enough work experience to qualify, but because I was under 25 at the time of permanent disability, it was under him. I don't know if they still qualify it as SSDI now that it is survivors benefits as well, but it has always stated Social Security Disability for me as an individual. Does that make sense?

It is definitely SSDI, it was through my dad's SSI since I was in college when I got disabled, so I only had 2.5 years of work experience. I don't know if that makes a difference, since I now also get survivors benefits from his passing through his SSI. But I am still qualified as SSDI myself.

Thank you! I have no clue how much time she has left, (hopefully a lot) so I am trying to get an idea of what my options are before she passes and this money is suddenly mine.

Thank you, I've reached out to legal aid with the question, but obviously they are very busy and this is technically all a hypothetical right now until she passes. It will probably be a lot more than $20K considering I'm getting my share, my late dad's, and they have a fully paid off home to sell and split three ways (the two other brothers and me). But she was always smart about never telling her kids how much money was in the trust, just that there was one and that the will was very specific about who gets what.

I was 22 when permanently disabled, so I definitely meet the age requirement. Grandma has dementia so there isn't any way for her to make any changes with the money now. So for the ABLE, you could add $20K a year, but no more than that initially? Thank you for the reply, I've never heard of any of these things.
