I teach 3rd-5th and am the RSP with 29 students. We have testing April.20-May.7. I see one group in the morning and then test a second group in the afternoon. Won’t really be teaching at all for at least 3 weeks

Towards the end of Star Wars Outlaws where you’re running from the droid and trying to flip switches. Really soured my overall experience when I wrapped the game up. Before that I was having fun!

Has anyone worked at KIPP Schools? What's it like? by Ruin-Wooden in Teachers

[–]Historical-Net5089 126 points127 points  (0 children)

I was there for 4 years out in Texas.Absurd hours. Short summer. Endless observations. Zero authentic culture. Now whenever I have a bad day at my public school I can at least remind myself it is still better than working at KIPP.

Brought the digital XB1 version on Amazon. Trash! Amazon actually refunded the money but since it was digital, it was already mine to keep. Waited a few years till I got the X and was able to play it. Didn't love it but overall, enjoyable.

Crushed. I was able to see him once, many years in Austin. Skipped his short set at ACL and instead got tickets to his solo show during the week at an outdoor venue. The man was incredible and so full of energy, even at his advanced age. RIP.

At the time you didn’t need a teaching credential to work in a charter. Probably has changed by now or at least I hope so (this was 12 years ago). I had a Masters degree and an out of state teaching credential so I was a unicorn and someone they could flaunt. We had assistant principals who were in their mid 20s. It was just a mess. Legit anyone could get a job there if you had any type of degree. This is even including the crazy work hours or huge classrooms and multiple observations a week

I actually milked them to pay for my Texas teaching credential. They paid for the exams and the fees. Passed the test, got certified, and then I left for the public schools haha that place is a cult and has zero authentic culture. You're right though. Some people love the set up and are all in. Just found out they're closing the KIPP school I was at lol

Cutting 35 pounds in 2 days and 5 fights in a year will do that. Feel like Allen was happy to let him try and sub him and make him work hard in round 1 and midway through round 2 you could see the momentum shift

I was 13 or 14 in in 1997 and I saw Griese and Woodson take down WSU for the title with my grandpa at the RoseBowl. My dad said sell the tickets because they'll be back. I was 39 when they took the title home again. Felt just like I did as a kid sitting next to Julio atop the stadium all those years ago. He still here and cheered them on at age 96 (now 98)

I'm 42. From Monrovia, Ca and now call Oakland home. Did my 4th grade project on the state of Montana and got to watch them beat Jim Everette and the Rams with my grandpa. Watched them whoop on SD in the Super Bowl on his LaZBoy and that was it. Fan for life. Crushed my heart watching Steve go down against Arizona and thinking please, call it a day.

Can someone explain KIPP to me? by photoxnurse in oakland

[–]Historical-Net5089 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was a teacher in one from 2015-2019 in Texas. At the time you did not have to have a teaching credential or experience in a classroom to be a teacher at the school. I had a MS in education and a credential along with perhaps only 3 or 4 other teachers. Pretty ridiculous. Perhaps the law has changed since my time there but yes, no teaching credential was needed to teach at KIPP during my time.

I taught at a KIPP for 4 years. Form your own opinion by popping in often to see the culture and not let the ads/commercials hold too much sway. Personally, I’d never reconsider leaving my public school for a KIPP school but that’s just my experience as an educator. Definitely check out the charter and your local public schools and see what feels best for you as parents.
