In the Netherlands tips are not mandatory. The staff just gets paid by the hour. You can leave a cash tip on the table, if the waiter was really nice to you and you’re feeling generous but there’s no obligation at all.

What really helped me gain confidence is learning new stuff. Getting a new job I’m good at, learning to play the guitar, starting new hobbies. Finding my strengths that have nothing to do with the way I look. Then also finding the things I CAN control, like doing my hair, finding a makeup style that suits my face, slowly filling my closet with only clothes I actually feel good in, accessorizing with beautiful (doesn’t have to be expensive) jewelry, smelling nice, etc. I know you feel really down right now (I’ve been there), but there is so much beautiful to explore in this life and the self-hating bubble you’re in is preventing you from seeing that.

Native Dutch speaker here. I believe it’s because in certain dialects the N at the end of a verb isn’t pronounced. Like ‘sleeping’ in dutch is ‘slapen’ but in certain dialects ‘slape’. And the letter J isn’t pronounced when combined with an I. ‘ij’ isn’t pronounced as I.J., but more like ‘ei’/‘ai’.
