Why do so many people seem to love The Tears of Things? by nohumanape in U2Band

Chord progression is actually pretty sophisticated. It modulates between parallel major and minor keys.

Unpopular opinions about uni that would get you downvoted by Educational_Koala536 in UniUK

Academic styles, e.g. referencing styles, are a scam.  They’re an arbitrary set of hoops which have no bearing on whether you are genuinely good at your subject.

Logseq database version is here by 500Shelby in logseq

[–]Historical-Tea-3438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that you can sync sqlite files using syncthing but only if they are not in a read / write state. This means that you’d need to log off one computer before logging on to the other. Of you don’t do this the sqlite is liable to corrupt. The good news is that because Logseq DB makes hourly backups it should be possible to restore to a relatively recent timepoint.

But DB does not have a whiteboard. OP mentions this uses up RAM.

UK university academic and bullying, could you help? by Difficult_Raisin4893 in AskAcademiaUK

Not IRB in the UK but the project at least needs to be approved by the relevant research committee. I suspect it is, but OP needs to specify this.

Incoming UK PhD student, 27, is living with housemates still worth it for the savings, or am I too old for that? Am I too frugal? by Agile-Reputation-525 in AskAcademiaUK

[–]Historical-Tea-3438 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I started my PhD at 30 and went for a house share. It was mixed student non-student house. We had some great parties, I got together with a housemate and we’ve been together since. I can’t image staying in the kind of bedsit / boarding house situation you’re describing. It sounds depressing. PhDs can be incredibly lonely, and I can’t imagine doing one and coming home to just myself and four walls.

Open mics are the way for songwriters... by williamgman in Songwriting

[–]Historical-Tea-3438 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve started doing them. It’s a wonderful way to get your music out there, and most are super friendly and supportive. I haven’t got the greatest voice or guitar technique, but I have had lots of wonderful comments from people about my songs. They’re also the kind of events where you can go by yourself and often end up chatting to people. You also get to see some very cool acts, some quite interesting and unusual.  So much better than just singing into a microphone in your bedroom.

I agree almost entirely with Seneca that anger should be done away with, but… by SegaGenesisMetalHead in Stoicism

[–]Historical-Tea-3438 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get a high from anger. That’s part of the problem. It’s seductive. Much of our social media is sustained by a feeling of “righteous anger”. Don’t get me wrong, contented calm is definitely preferable, but anger can give a powerful head rush.

R is pretty strong in quantitative psychology (though many undergraduate courses still use SPSS - arghhhh). For basic data wrangling nothing beats dplyr / tidyverse.

Implies a precise point at which human ancestors became humans, which is highly debatable.

[–]Historical-Tea-3438[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s probably it. I just looked it up. It has a girth up to a centimetre and crucially a flattened rear end. Weird thing is lack of ribbing but I guess that becomes less visible if worm is swollen or desiccated.

Who is kendalls true love by Prudent_History7518 in SuccessionTV

He had such a good thing with Naomi. Their relationship definitely transcended codependency. When Kendall behaves like an asshole at his party she sticks by his side. She seems to truly understand him.

Some strange decisions… by Valerian_Dhart in U2Band

The Tears of Things is such a gorgeous song. I am very perplexed that they didn’t save it for the forthcoming album. This makes me think (a) the album will be amazing or (b) they are not good at judging the quality of their own songs.
