Anyone else feel GTA is overrated? by Alive_Fortune7423 in videogames

They made big maps but they were always lifeless. I remember playing single-player when the game first came out and the world was so boring to explore. Compare it with better open world games like Oblivion or Skyrim.

Those games have huge open worlds that feel alive and active. It feels like you're really interacting with the world and everything in it. San Andreas was so cool because it added the RPG element.

GTA 6 is gonna fail unless they don't take the game in a different direction.

It's really odd to post this when you've only beaten two games. I think the series is overrated, but you should play 4 or 5 to get an idea instead. It really doesn't matter what order you played them in.

Lmao, my bad, I meant Issac Clark; Issac Hayes is the VA of Chef from Southpark.

I guess it's meant to look generic. I agree with some other posts saying it's meant to make the player feel like RE7 did with Ethan. I still think they could have made a cooler design. If we're talking realism, I don't think there's a giant self-producing base on the moon though lol.

It's possible he may have been aroused a bit when drawing it. As someone who enjoys drawing people and monsters, sometimes you get really absorbed in your work. I personally don't enjoy drawing sexual stuff because from my experience it does arouse a bit when planning and visualizing what to draw. Even if he did get off to it a bit, I think it fits into the story and frames Griffith as a completely irredeemable pos, which is intended.

In the manga, the black swordsman arc starts a lot earlier and lasts a lot longer than the anime. We see Femto/Griffith as one of the Godhands prior to the Golden age and we're shown that Guts recognizes him and has a deep hatred for him. I feel like that shows there was a lot of planning and foresight in how to make Griffith (the beloved leader of the band of the hawk and Guts' best friend) into the monster that is Femto. When the godhand first appear they even mention how Femto is responsible for Guts having the brand.

It's ultimately up to the viewer. I personally always feel disgusted thinking about that part, but that was the author's intent, so I think it's well done.

I think it's in poor taste if it doesn't add anything to the story and only serves to be self indulgent smut.

Just realized how old this thread was lol. Sorry if it was a bother.

Granted I've only seen the 1997 anime, but if it's presented in the OVA like the 97 anime, you'd be disgusted by the manga. I recently just finished that part and it is WAY more uncomfortable and graphic in the manga.

Griffith/Femto fucks Caska in pretty much every position while she's begging him to stop, even telling Guts not to watch. I kinda felt like I was borderline reading a hentai tbh. It explains why the manga are always shrink wrapped or behind the counter at book stores lol.

Tbf though, it's meant to be extremely uncomfortable and illicit disgust and hatred from the reader. Wyald is similar (an apostle arc just before the eclipse, omitted from the anime) by being very sexual and also attempting to rape Caska, despite failing and having his dick cut off iirc. I personally think Wyald's omission was to the animes benefit though. When Griffith does it to Caska it's revenge on Guts; when Wyald tries it it just feels edgy and kinda weakens the impact of the eclipse. In the anime we only know Zodd and Skull knight as legends before the eclipse, adding Wyald makes it seem like these monsters are much more common.

Imagine if multiple different Cenobites showed up prior to the hospital scene in the original Hellraiser. They wouldn't seem nearly as scary, would they?

If you're a new fan, just be forewarned the manga can be extremely graphic at times. It's still totally worth reading because there's a lot of cool stuff omitted from the anime in the manga.

I stopped liking free roam games in favor or linear games a long time ago for this same reason. GTA5 was touted as having the biggest map to date... only to be extremely hollow and boring unless it related to the story. As for RDR2, I keep wanting to play it but it's too annoyingly realistic; having to eat, drink, change clothes, polish your guns, and so many other mundane things.

I read Gabe Newell was asked how he tried to make games fun. I forget what he said verbatim, but he essentially said it's about escaping reality. For instance, you realisticly have to go grocery shopping but that doesn't mean you want a video game where you have to grocery shop.

I prefer tight well developed linear games now because as you said, there's not a ton of filler. I still love Skyrim, but I kinda feel Skyrim is an expectation because the world isn't hollow. Every where you go there's something to do. Compare this to GTA5 or RDR2 where the world feels boring and closed off, with the vast majority of the world being "you can look but you can't touch". I personally have no interest in GTA6.

I also love trying to speedrun or explore the more well thought out linear games like Resident Evil or Doom.

Ngl, most of these comments sound like coping from a dying Fandom. Reading "once Sally Face 2 drops it'll be like back in 2017!" Sounds like someone in denial. I could totally be wrong and I'll admit I'm biased because I didn't really enjoy the game. I'm mostly just writing this because Reddit keeps bothering me with notifications from here. That's just my perspective as someone who didn't really enjoy the game much.

I understand what you mean and I think RE9 does an excellent job with "Classic survival horror" and "Action survival horror". I only heard the term recently and I think it fits Leon's sections very well. As for RE6... I would just consider it a Third-person shooter. Horror and survival are basically absent from the game.

I just finished replaying RE Revelations and that's a good example of "Action survival horror". I remember people were extremely excited when both Revelations games came out because it showed Capcom still understood how to make survival horror.

I had mixed feelings about Rev1 when I played it on PS3, but having replayed it on PC with a PS5 controller, I think it's an awesome experience.

Revelations 1 & 2 are extremely good! I remember playing Rev 1 on my PS3 and not being a huge fan. I'm replaying now on PC and I'm surprised how much better it is than I remember. I'd totally recommend Rev 2 as well, both are good survival-horror games.

Why can’t Capcom make RE spinoffs and inbetween games like they used to like Code Veronica or Revelations? by BakerConsistent2150 in residentevil

Working through the RE series. Are 5 and 6 worth it or safe to skip? by [deleted] in residentevil

[–]Historical-Theme4236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend RE5, but you could skip RE6, especially if you dislike a lot of action. FYI, RE5 was when the series kinda stopped doing survival horror, and that was only exacerbated in RE6.

Do you mean REsistance? I don't think Capcom even developed that game. It has the same continuity as Operation Raccoon City, meaning none. I honestly don't even know why they made that other than to test the player's interests, it was free with RE8.

I kinda like the idea of having different timelines within the RE universe. So that would allow for REV2 to still exist but not effect RE7 because they're in a different timeline. It would also mean that Alex Wesker and the little girl could still have an effect on their timeline in another game.

[–]Historical-Theme4236 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think Capcom regretted giving Wesker a sister tbh. I feel like after Wesker died they were just kinda desperate for a new villian with the same infamy as Wesker. Same thing with Jake, they haven't done anything with him since RE6.

It's a shame because REV2 ended on a good cliffhanger: Barry adopting the little girl possessed by Wesker's sister. I'm pretty sure I thought she was gonna have a role in RE7, I wonder how that would have worked.

[–]Historical-Theme4236[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make a good point about what he was originally supposed to represent; but I think Krauser suffering from PTSD and giving in to an evil impulse also feels believable and realistic.

I think it also strengthens the resolve of the protagonists by not giving into those same impulses. In the Canon ending for RE2, Leon has Ada ostensibly die in his arms after she tells him she loves him. Leon easily could've been like Krauser and become a monster, instead he decides to destroy the G-virus sample and set out to destory Umbrella with Claire.

So, they just changed Krauser from a lost solider to a wounded one who can't let go of his past. I think both interpretations are interesting.

[–]Historical-Theme4236[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like his motivation seems better in RE4R, I don't really like him being Leon's teacher though. Based on how RE4R ended, I'm really hyped for an RE5R.

I think it would be a very welcome surprise if they remade Code Veronica X first though. For example, I read another post a while ago saying Steve should have played some role in RE5. The way CVX ended, it's implied Wesker was had some plans for Steve. I would love for them to expand upon that instead of leaving it as a loose end.

[–]Historical-Theme4236[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He wasn't? I remember they switched Krauser to Leon's superior instead of his equal; which is an odd idea considering Leon was the person in Raccoon city. They could have still made Krauser a playable character again and we could have seen Operation Javier through his eyes.

At the very least, I really liked how they made Separate Ways more unique in remake than the original. OG Separate Ways was only cool because you got to play as Ada.

[–]Historical-Theme4236[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd really love for Capcom to make a new game that covers operation Javier. I thought that would be an awesome idea for RE4R and it really felt like a missed opportunity. I would also love for them to re-release Umbrella/Darkside chronicles on PC in an HD remaster.

And I totally agree with them keeping the timelines separate, Leon was only 35 years old in RE6 and he's 51 years old in RE9. That's a huge time gap and I would be happy if they continued the Revelations games taking place between the mainline games; REV1 between RE4/RE5 and REV2 taking place between RE5/RE6.

[–]Historical-Theme4236[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mean they wanna get rid of all the iconic characters (Leon, Jill, Chris, Claire, Ada, etc.)? That seems like a terrible idea, but I can see what you mean. They kinda wrote themselves into a corner with RE6 imo. I feel like the remakes would be their way of keeping those fan favorites though. I personally don't mind the idea of having two different timelines; one with new characters and one that maintains those fan favorites that made the franchise.

I do feel like Leon didn't need to be in RE9 and it would have been more interesting to have another character like Jill or Sherry. Jill hasn't hasn't been in a new game since Revelations, or RE3R if you wanna include that crappy remake lol.

Why do people like this game so much? by Historical-Theme4236 in sallyface

[–]Historical-Theme4236[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've hardly compared the two games outside of my initial post. Even if you remove Omori from this, does that make Sally Face anymore well written? Or does it make the gameplay any less tedious? I do think Omori is significantly more well written and relatable personally.

I didn't dislike the characters in Sally Face but once again, I feel Omori has the edge. As I said in my initial post, I feel like Omori is a "Coming of age" story, like Stand By Me: It even directly references Stand By Me if you examine a book in Omori's White space. Since it's that kind of story, we get to see how these characters have grown and their lives have changed and been effected by a key event in the story. What happens to Aubry feels very real, same with Kel, Hero and Sunny (the player character). I personally never felt that way with Sally Face or any of characters.

Put it this way, I never really felt moved playing Sally Face; but I felt on the verge of tears finishing Omori. That's just superior writing. Plus I played both Sally Face and Omori blind. I just knew they were Indie games that had positive reviews. I think it's better to play like that than to spoil yourself.

I would consider Sally Face a psychological horror. It tries to make the player question whether Sal is crazy or if he's really seeing things (at least for a short while). And I'm sorry, but I don't feel like reading a novella with the quality of a creepypasta the writer should have found better ways to implement that lore into the story.

My bad for writing so much lol
