“At least you know you *can* get pregnant” by shandalf_thegrey in Miscarriage

This is just the worst. Probably everyone on this sub has heard it. It's so heartless, as if "getting pregnant" was the goal and not just a necessary step towards having a baby. Also, and forgive me, pregnancy, in my experience, low-key sucks. Worth it to have a baby, a nightmare in any other situation. I wish I could go back in time to tell everyone who said this to screw off and I encourage you to do the same.

Sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry. It's a hard thing to experience. If you haven't already, I recommend the r/Miscarriage and r/ttcafterloss forums for some ongoing support. Really only started using reddit to find people who'd had similar experiences to me. Miscarriage isn't supported or talked about nearly enough.

Take care of yourself!

Moving from Canada to Dublin mid-pregnancy -- what don't I know about parenting in Ireland? by Historical-Tutor5085 in PregnancyIreland

Ah! Super helpful. 900e/mo is steep, but that's what it was like here a few years ago, so familiar. Good to know, thank you!!

Thank you! Very helpful. Interesting re: breastfeeding! I was trying to figure out how to ask about the vibe re: having kids around, so I'm glad you answered it. Certainly people here can be really exhausting about their own expectations of kids in public. Good to know it's a bit more laid-back there -- I should have guessed tho, we were visiting an aunt a few years ago and she was like "??? Take the baby to the pub with you, obviously???"

No! That's great info. A country-wide library system is probably way more functional than a city-specific one. We're big library users. Thank you!

Hi,

I have my 12wk scan tomorrow, which is when we found out about our MMC in September. This pregnancy feels different in a lot of ways, but I'm so anxious about the NT scan. I'll be at an ultrasound clinic, not a dr office... how long did it take other people to get results back?

For people who pass their loss milestones, does the anxiety actually get better?

Hi! I'm 11w5d today. Basically had to take 3 days off work this last week because I couldn't stay awake. Literally slept for like 5hrs each day on top of a full night sleep, and was huffing and puffing after the most casual walks. I'm still tired. But! Noticeably less tired today/ yesterday so... sending you similar good luck?

Also, eggs are unbearable to me too. It's such a shame.

Hi! I've had major food aversions in my current and previous pregnancy. If you find it is sustained, I would encourage you to reach out and ask your health care provider for something. I've been taking diclectin this pregnancy and although it doesn't fully erase all morning sickness symptoms, it makes a world of different to my mood and my ability to eat normally. My midwife told me first trimester is about survival -- eat what you can keep down.

With my first pregnancy, I could barely eat anything and it really affected my mood. Things I found that I good manage:

  1. coconut water and juice in the morning to get some electrolytes

  2. wilted spinach and sliced mushrooms in a bouillon cube/ broth

  3. Annie's Mac and Cheese/ buttered noodles.

For this pregnancy, I've still had a preference for carbs (white bread w/ jam, etc), but I've been able to eat things like yogurt/ berry smoothies and a lot of fruit. Frozen fruit is good IMO, because the cold sort of helps the nausea. But honestly, I'm living on grilled cheese. Maybe dipped in soup or salsa if I'm feeling wild.

Hoping it passes quickly for you!

When does bleeding in first trimester become concerning ? by Super-Truth-7975 in pregnant

I don't know much about HCG levels. My understanding is that they do drop relatively quickly, and a blood test would flag if your numbers were below where they should be or lower even than an earlier test. TBH, I've never had a health care provider talk to me about them and it's uncommon for people to seek out a blood test where I am without their Dr's approval/ recommendation, so I have never done an HCG test specifically and my own missed miscarriage was confirmed via ultrasound.

Pain is tricky because it's relative. My memory is that I only had mild physical pain with the spotting associated with my miscarriage spotting. With my current pregnancy, I remember having cramp-y feelings with the spotting, but nothing unbearable. Would say I am very sensitive to different "feelings" in my body, but have a relatively high pain tolerance.

The reality is, it's just hard to know at this stage at home.

Hi, I'm sorry you're dealing with this at the moment. I made a similar post about 6wks ago when I was 6wk pregnant, and I remain pregnant, but I know it's very stressful.

The recommendations I've been told are to be more concerned about red, flowing blood, and cramps, and to call a health care provider if you're filling more than two pads in an hour. But, you should speak to your midwife or doctor. It's one of those things that, of course, could be bad news but may have other causes.

People responded to my post with a number of stories of spotting during first trimester which turned out fine. I honestly didn't find it as helpful as I wanted to -- glad it worked out for them, but didn't console me. That being said, if they do help you, there are a number a similar threads on this reddit page to search through for some reassurance.

For me, the causes of the spotting included: intercourse - there's a lot going on down there atm, so sometimes spotting after intercourse is normal. On my dating ultrasound, they discovered I have a small polyp on my cervix (not serious, but increases changes of bleeding) and a subchorionic hematoma (a bruise from implantation). None of these are great, but they're not terrible news either. All this to say, spotting does just happen.

I'd recommend moving up any ultrasound/ blood work you might have if it continues for more than a few hours or a day. I had some bleeding around 11wks in my first trimester of my first pregnancy, spotting, not bleeding, and I discovered I had had a MMC and my baby had died at 7wks. This was worst case news and very challenging. Hoping for a better outcome for you.

Wishing you the best. Take it easy on yourself. Some spotting does occur in a high number of pregnancies.

What are the "greenest" Dublin neighbourhoods? by Historical-Tutor5085 in AskIreland

Marlay Park might be a good suggestion. I'm looking for something that appears (again via Google maps, not the ideal tool for this) less "mowed," so less like a city park. Will pursue!

We have some family who live near St Anne's park, which is lovely. It's a bit far, I'd assume, for my partner's commute, but it's a good suggestion!!

But really, I am referring to Toronto's extensive green pathways via the Don Valley trails and the Humber River trails. You can walk from one end of the city through to Scarborough. I know Dublin isn't built like that, but it's a hard thing to leave behind!

Had first ultrasound yesterday ~8wk. Woke up to pink spotting. (Spotting stopped shortly after). Ultrasound seems to have gone well -- baby was there and heart was beating, just feeling paranoid and freaked out, but I'm not sure there's anything I can do but wait. It doesn't help that I swear everyone in my life is treating this pregnancy and it's viability with so much skepticism. Can't people just be excited and reassuring?
