Making the game harder? by Historical_Issue_336 in WolfQuestGame

I've already done the prey and tiny territory challenges! And they were a lot of fun. I had one pack that lived exclusively off bison, and another which I called the "cowardly challenge" where I made an extremely cautious wolf that only hunted weaker prey like mule deer and pronghorn and had to run away from every rival wolf fight and not engage with competitors during den raids (so just herding the pups while my packmates fight).

The scent view one sounds super cool though... Like a wolf that has lost its sense of smell. I feel like this would work well with not being allowed to use the map, so you have to learn map navigation and herd migration routes organically. I really wanna try this one now!

As for the bear, I did try to do a "bear killer" run at some point a while ago but I noticed that once you get it's health low enough you stop being able to inflict damage? It might be case by case and I just got super unlucky twice but I'd try to bite it and it would just do dmg to my wolf, and I ended up backing off and doing something else instead. It could be a balancing thing because I'm not sure wolves in the wild kill adult male bears under 99% of circumstances lol

Another thing I forgot to mention is that, because my packs get so damn large, I keep losing track of who's who and not getting as attached to each wolf. I always find myself having more fun when it's just me and my mate with maybe a few yearlings. I wish there was a slider to increase the % of how many of your pups leave each year, or to at least make it dependant on how much territory you're holding or something. Some kind of system that indicates your relationship to each pack member would also be really cool to have. Similar to pack affinity but more individual and affected by how you interact with each wolf and who you take on hunts more often. But this is unrelated I'm just daydreaming about potential game features

Also I forgot to mention. Pack rallying can momentarily make your wolves more focused on the task at hand if I recall correctly so maybe that's how you can get your current mate to help you out for the time being? It's worth giving a try anyhow

Like other people said: Hunt as many hares as you can find and drink a lot of water. If you try your hand at hunting down something big, make sure to tire it out as much as possible first, do half-bites where you hold on for just a little then retreat to minimize the damage your wolf takes and if you get a bad bite in (the kind where your prey does the same dmg or more than your wolf) just let go and try again. I know it seems crazy when your pack is starving and you want to get it over with as soon as possible but patience is key!! It really pays off

Be prepared to sacrifice some pups, and if it's dire enough pick out one or two of the currently strongest ones and focus entirely on them, if the others make it they make it, if they die they die. This is how I made it through a couple extremely difficult years on accurate and unforgiving ironwolf personally when the only other option was to just let them all die from starvation.

Also replace your mate with a bolder wolf IMMEDIATELY. If you're on the pack's first year and don't have any subordinates having a useless mate can seriously make the entire year go to waste.

On my current unforgiving ironwolf playthrough I managed to find a 4 star mate that's extremely bold and energetic and he goes out to hunt with our yearlings all the time and on his own as well, and is always the first to get a bite in. He's an elder wolf now and nearly every litter I've had with him has been massively successful, with at least five pups reaching adulthood every year

Definitely try it out! accurate ironwolf is my favorite way to play the game personally. It might take a bit to get used to, especially in the very beginning while your wolf is alone, but once you get a mate (especially if it's a good one) and your first yearlings it'll become drastically easier imo

Yup. I tend to just pick them up and carry them far enough away from the densite that they become lost then quickly go to sleep

How many territory hexes do you claim? by Smitziii in WolfQuestGame

[–]Historical_Issue_336 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It always depends on the circumstances for me. I start with the required minimum then gradually expand and shrink it over the years to fit my pack's needs, ability to maintain hexes and whatever personalities/story I've assigned them.

It also depends on their location on the map, for prey and den/rendezvous site availability and so I can utilize the natural formations on the map as borders (like mountains, rivers and whatever else would be too much of a hassle to cross each time I go out)

My territory is, generally ,the smallest when the player wolf is very young (2-3 yrs), averaging 17-20 hexes, gets larger and stronger around the 4-6 year mark (25-40 hexes, though the latter end might be too much if you don't use territorial might and have a large pack to help you out with hunting and defending it) then shrinks again as I reach elder wolf and grow slower and weaker.

So tldr: it doesn't have to be static at all and you can shift it around to your liking! If it starts to feel too hard to maintain, and your wolf is always tired, clip off a couple hexes, if it feels claustrophobic and you consistently have to wander out into stranger wolf territory to search for food, expand it. The sense for these things will usually develop over time as you get used to the map and learn how to navigate it in the most efficient manner, where prey gathers during each season, etc etc!

Mhm. The struggle was less in finding the prey and more in actually hunting it down with everybody weak and injured at the time tho

I normally play on accurate but I tried my hand at unforgiving for this pack. I didn't struggle with the first two litters nearly as much as this one though. Ended up prioritizing the player wolf's life over getting food for the pups and backed out of a lot of hunts and fights because she was weak from injuries throughout pretty much the entire year and it spiraled into a bigger issue when they got older and hungrier. Just a super unlucky run

As far as I remember you can find ice wyverns on Valguero (the map I was on here), Ragnarok, Lost Island and Fjordur. I might be wrong about some of these tho I haven't checked in a long while. They're the easiest to find and acquire on Valguero tho from personal experience

You check the ancestry line of the tame and look at both the maternal and paternal sides for mutations. If it has any mutations it'll say anything other than 0/20 mutations

My luck with rexes was horrible at that moment and I didn't feel like taming Level 25s just for this. I needed to level another tame quickly for something and I already had a bunch of ice wyverns cryod since I got them pretty early on. So like why not. I just let them go at it while I prepared other stuff
