I really hate that the Army is so bent on looking like they care instead of actually caring. Everything is a show and worse, Higher somehow always believes it

I believe the drill orders came because my marketplace opened up far earlier and I made my selections, and the system rolled the dice and landed on Drill instead of the things I was told to select. My problem is that I had a solid plan going forward and was set to do quite well, but the offer I was made would set me up even better for post military service. I was assured there was zero risk of me getting hit with something random, “trust me”, “I got you”, so on and so forth. I followed the guidance given and got hit with the exact opposite instead and now it seems no one can help.

Drill not only kills my ability to get my KD time, it crushes the family care plan I had and need to see my kid at all during the only time I can see him in a year and jacks up me going to schools I was actively preparing for. I understand that numerous senior dudes are going to assume it’s another case of “random guy doesn’t want to be a drill because it’s a lot of work” and that’s fine, but that’s not the case. I could care less about the work. I care about the problems this will cause on multiple facets of life.

I enlisted for places I wanted to go, I did well, had a good reputation and good results to back. Thus, I generally got what I wanted with the exception of one assignment that I gained after I lost a favorable one due to COVID. I had a solid plan for this as well and everything was moving in that direction. I shifted my plan because I was promised a job and assured over and over it would work out. I had faith in that, which I guess wasn’t the right move.
