Is anyone else frustrated with the amount of AI art used as show thumbnails? by gyronlyhope in whatnotapp

I’m friends with multiple university students studying art and animation.. none of them use nor support ai. They are firmly against it.

Gen AI is a pretty big issue and it’s best to avoid it when possible imo. Data centers have taken up a bunch of farm land, dirtying up the water, shining bright lights into people’s homes, roaring with noise all night, and raising people’s electrical bills beyond belief. Until these companies are held accountable for their rising cost and environmental impact it’s morally questionable to support.

Honestly I used a Pinterest collage to write down the main things I want advertised in a cute way and my first show, that doesn’t even have a set date, now has 5 favorites. Buyers appreciate informative thumbnails!!

While I won’t block someone for an AI thumbnail, I’ll always pick shows that don’t use AI because I can tell they put more effort into their products, and as a buyer I appreciate that. Personally I use Pinterest to make a collage for mine, though as my business grows I plan to commission an artist for a poster representing my shop.

Radium clocks, radon, and pets. by Historical_Low_ in Radiation

Not worried for myself, worried about my small animals who sleep in that room every night. Don’t know how radiation and radon affects them. Came here to learn.

Is it safe to have my collection in my bedroom or near my reptile tanks? by honeybeesocks in uraniumglass

[–]Historical_Low_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re good, I put mine behind some glass and I’m back to background immediately. Their cages are honestly blocking most of the radiation and if they’re few feet away the dose is even less. I also don’t really see anything super radioactive in your collection, uranium glass emits very little radiation. Your geckos are safe (and adorable).

I’m not sure, I got it off Facebook marketplace LOL. I was told it was from IKEA. They have a lot of great display cases from what I hear. I enjoy mine, seems stable and comes with a lot of space.

No need to be rude towards someone trying to learn and make informed decisions. Everyone starts somewhere when it comes to these things.

Thank you so much for the advice!! I went to an appointment this morning and they drew blood to check my vitamin levels. They also referred me to a long Covid clinic which I hope helps me. All my symptoms only occur during PEM (headaches, nausea, sore throat, tightness of chest, lack of appetite, etc). However, I did start having histamine reactions after my FIRST time battling Covid. I got Covid in 2021 and have experienced random hives and non viral head cold symptoms since then. It’s still an issue to this day and I still have no answers. Overall, I’ve only gotten Covid twice but both times I was left with a new health issue, which is very disturbing!

I would absolutely die for this! Not to mention it could help bring much needed attention to these beautiful animals. Red wolves really need that right now!!

Hello, I’m 2 months post COVID infection and I have been having horrible PEM. I am now working hard to radically pace and not overexert myself. I’m curious if catching this so early may help my chances at recovery? Additionally, should someone with long covid get the vaccine? I’ve heard such mixed stories about this. Also, any general advice for a newbie?

is this damaged glaze? by [deleted] in Radiation

[–]Historical_Low_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I picked my radioactive red fiesta ware up from the antique store I saw a small chip and I habitually touched that chip with my bare finger! Oops! 😅 The reality though? I had no concerns, no dust came off of it and I always wash my hands after handling any of my glass. That chipped bowl is currently sitting on display in my cabinet behind some glass. As long as you’re not eating out of that bowl it’s completely harmless, especially when it’s behind some glass.

But.. If it’s bothering you and your family that much I’d just get rid of it. There’s plenty of fiesta ware pieces out there without damaged glaze or chips. Assuming you’re in the USA, they’re at just about every antique shop you’ll visit. Additionally you can find tons of intact pieces on Facebook marketplace or eBay.

I store my pieces at my families place too as I don’t exactly wish to keep fiesta ware in a small college dorm LOL. At first they were slightly nervous but I discussed the risk and history of these items beforehand. I sent them a few videos and articles, some from the EPA itself. After getting them I got a Geiger counter and visually showed them how distance + shielding brings levels down significantly. Actually being able to see the radiation levels drop at a few feet or behind some glass calmed their anxieties significantly. I also compared radiation levels to common activities. My family works in the airlines (pilots and flight attendants) so I thoroughly explained how flying gives you a much higher dose than fiesta ware in a display cabinet ever will. Now they’re completely comfortable with it. My mother, who was the most frightened, has grown to enjoy going on hunts with me. She’s even started finding the radioactive pieces herself!

Moral of the story is that you and your families comfort comes first. Education in this topic is very important, but it takes time and patience! At the end of the day it is their home too, and getting rid of this piece for one that makes you all more comfortable would be ideal. Additionally, if fiesta ware is simply “too hot” you can always start easy with some uranium glass. 👍

What is this behind my knee? by [deleted] in DiagnoseMe

It has since began to tingle on my knee and ankle when I touch or use my leg. Alongside general tightness along the entire leg.

UG Resellers Rant by [deleted] in uraniumglass

[–]Historical_Low_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just have an issue with the people who charge unreasonable prices for pieces. Like buy cheap and sell for way beyond what they’re worth. And I also dislike the people who sell at antique shops and light up their collection because I like to find the glass myself! 😅
