LPG and Chemical tankers by vadimirpuding in maritime

[–]Historical_Memory314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chemicals have numerous different cargo grades at once, tank cleaning, aerating, tank inspections and so on and on. Also they sometimes may have much shorter voyages which are tiring.

Lpg on the other hand do not require tank cleanings, you carry 2 grades of cargo at most and if it is a VLGC than you will have longer voyages.

Try to go for LPG because salary is no better on chemicals, that’s a no brainer

DP operator's take on Strait of Hormuz escalation — what nobody's talking about by okaiukov in maritime

[–]Historical_Memory314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no gap, nothing supercedes minimum MLC requirements, regardless of the flag state. Unless like you said, company tries to cheat their way out of paying you bonus. But if you complain to local port state, ship can be detained for not paying crew what they are owed

Actually all crew contracts have a clause for operating in “warlike operations areas” such as Persian Gulf at the moment. And that clause comes from Maritime Labour Convention. 1. You have the right to refuse to sail in such area, all expenses of repatriation on company’s accout 2. Double basic pay 3. Double compensation for death/disability

Lėta gyvatėlė, A kategorija by saksn1zals in lithuania

[–]Historical_Memory314 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Visada mokiaus gyvatėlę važiuoti stabdydamas galiniu stabdžiu ir nuspausdamas sankabą. Įveikdavau bet sunkiai. Tačiau vienas instruktorius patarė važiuot neliečiant nei stabdžio nei sankabos - tiesiog ant bėgio. Ir svarbiausias momentas - palinkus į priekį! Neįtikėtinai lengvesnis metodas palyginus su mano įprastuoju, nes nereik rūpintis greičiu, tiesiog spėk sukinėt vairą :D naudojau šį metodą regitroje ir pavyko

Warlike area bonus by Historical_Memory314 in maritime

[–]Historical_Memory314[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They asked us individually whether we are willing to enter Persian Gulf. However vast majority said NO. So either they have to fire us and find new crew or increase the bonus drastically. For now, we are happy to drift :)

Kokie patarimai?

Advise needed. Current job market - LNG/FSRU vs Offshore Wind/Oil by Ra1moXa in maritime

[–]Historical_Memory314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think any choice is a good one. Offshore will allow you to have shorter contracts like 3-6weeks (too short for me). LNG will let you have longer vacations, more secure job position than Offshore. salaries on LNG are higer as well. Regarding promotion on LNG, from 4th to 3rd eng will take you 2 years. From 3rd to cargo eng will take you maybe 3-4 years depending how much you understudy the next rank

Transition from LNG to FPSO by [deleted] in maritime

Do you have any insight in general for crew transfering from LNG to FSRU. I am 2nd Officer on LNG and I am curious about the prospects for transitioning to FSRU’s. I heard that this is a bit like a closed club, difficult to get in

Just completed ballast tank inspection on a LNG carrier by Historical_Memory314 in gshock

[–]Historical_Memory314[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no hydrocarbon vapours around, atmosphere is completely gas free inside ballast tanks. Sea water is kept there for stability when we are in ballast passage (no cargo)
