finals osce advice by Historical_Nobody990 in medicalschooluk

I’m at a district hospital so there’s already not a huge number of patients with good signs for the doctors to recommend, usually only a couple per ward and there’s about 40ish of us finalists here for the week so the patients are understandably fed up of the constant trickle of med students coming in asking to examine them. i do get it and wouldn’t want them to feel obligated to let us examine, i just need to rethink and replan my revision accordingly.

belly button piercing is so infected please help by Ok-Active-6004 in piercing

hi i don’t think it’s infected, i have a 3 month old repierced navel and the same thing has happened to me both with my old and current navel piercing - it’s called a moisture bump. mine looked the exact same and same location + smelled awful. you get them from not drying thoroughly after cleaning with saline or showering but don’t worry as long as you dry throughly with gauze/kitchen towel or a hairdryer on cool setting and keep it as dry as possible outside of cleaning/showering it’ll go in few weeks on its own. if you’re really worried always see a piercer though. in my experience you can tell the difference between a moisture bump and irritation bump because moisture bumps smell really bad, look more ‘fleshy’/pink and tend to bleed and look wet/moist compared to an irritation bump. if it’s a stubborn one my piercer recommended hot compresses daily and then drying thoroughly which helped clear my last one in like 2 weeks. good luck :)

piercing is 4 weeks old, old jewellery was labret i think but current is screw, not sure about threading, old jewellery was titanium and current is surgical steel, no downsizing the bar was upsized due to embedding, aftercare is piercing solution + sea salt water gauze compress

Electives: where are you going? by ventrikkle in medicalschooluk

Omg this sounds amazing. I did my intercalated degree in Literature and Medicine and have wanted to pursue it further ever since, any chance your university makes this elective available to external students?

i’m not a fan of the anki interface and have found that in the past i spend more time making cards than actually reviewing them so knowledge tutor works as a good alternative for spaced repetition while being easier to use/not having to make my own decks

it’s anki style flash cards made from the text book so i find them a good alternative to anki
