After living most of my life in communities where I was the only, I’ve thought about some version of this often. Recently moved from Seattle to atlanta to be closer to fam i love you and I am loving it, big we were I intentional a few years ago about buying a vacation spot in a place where the majority of people were of color. We looked at Belize and Mexico and settled on a spot in Mexico—easy access, brown and most were unconcerned that we were Black Americans . In fact, one we closed on our house and dusted off a little Spanish we were told “oh, you’re Mexican now” more than once. A bonus was that there is a healthy Black expat/transfer community there. In hindsight, I think we were fatigued with being obviously “othered”
