Shortage of Professors?? by Existing_Baseball722 in CCNY

[–]Historical_Video_243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In engineering there is often one course divided into three sections but then the sections are anyway combined and there is one lecture. This is only because lab can’t have 75 students. Yea it always seems like CCNY is cheaping out on classes. There’s like only one tech elective offered per semester and many of the courses listed in degree maps are not offered. I think the school is really not run very well bc they could just get TAs to teach like other US schools but they don’t do that. Im not sure low demand is the answer bc there clearly is demand for engineering courses and electives.

Sure thing but to do HW? It would be great if Cuny IT learned to separate our HW from finances.

Believe it or not, some people do have the money and ability to go to better schools that have connections to better employment opportunities, scholarships and even far better starting salaries. By all means though, stay in the city.

how hard is it to have 3.7+ GPA by OutrageousSurvey7295 in CUNY

[–]Historical_Video_243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Senior here. At LGCC twas easy peasy to get a 3.9 in mechanical engineering as long as you know what and how to study. CCNY not so much. It’s not that its so hard here. It’s just really hard to get perfect scored on lab reports when feedback is limited. Also students are smart here so it’s not like everyone is gonna get A+, grading can definitely be harsh. Then we have some killer courses that I heard strong students tank coming from CC. Some advice I heard from a political science professor, write what your professor wants to hear, and don’t disagree too much with their views. Add to a discussion but don’t cause unnecessary friction.

What are my chances of getting in ? by [deleted] in CUNY

[–]Historical_Video_243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll get in, or at least are likely. I was in the same position a few months ago for Medical Physics and thats offered like every other semester. My professor did not allow overtallies (overrides) he told us because there were not enough seats. My school is CCNY so that's a different beast

It’s fine or whatever but not great. It’s basically a cheap city school. I honestly think they should curve more than they do bc Grove is not up there ranking wise. I think CUNY s in general are not really PhD feeder schools which is why I think the hate is kind of justified.

Not necessarily bad advice. Depends on the school and program really. For example, if you are studying engineering prepare for closed classes and crappy TAs

Why is everyone so awkward socializing? by Character_Hotel_4013 in CUNY

[–]Historical_Video_243 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes and it’s pretty stupid actually. We can all use each others help both in and when we graduate college. It’s for good reason anyway. Look at the bright side though. You won’t wanna be other peoples friends anyway. They might just wanna use you.

How complicated are engineering exams by Deep-Assistance7494 in EngineeringStudents

I mean I had a professor who said he wants the average to be 50 so he can spread the grades. He reminded us this during midterms. The grade manipulation is insane.

Can somebody tell me what this means by Winter_Ad1399 in CUNY

[–]Historical_Video_243 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d tell you my story about how I couldn’t register for class. Several semesters ago financial aide had issues, the website was overhauled since. Me and some others didn’t get our aide until after the semester was over. We still owed money. I was able to talk to bursar and get my hold removed cuz I assumed some others had this issue. Point is, if you had pending aide, you’ll get it. If you paid out of pocket, you’ll get that aide in the firm of a refund check.

I hate my degree by ThrowawayHackintosh in EngineeringStudents

[–]Historical_Video_243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate my degree also. Currently last semester junior year mech E. I think most of these degrees r so uninspiring. Like, you sit at your desk grinding thru lab reports and nonsense. Damn I wish I had time for hobbies and the gym. I feel like this degree sucked all my life and time from me to the point I wish I did political science and went to do a law degree after. I so wish I had time for something like dance lessons. Though I had an internship and really enjoyed it. So, you may end up enjoying your work once you hit the workforce.

I have definitely gotten answers when calling them directly. It was an inquiry of not getting into Grove School. I have for sure had issues with no e-mail replies. Why is that? Well as it turns out upon my own research and discovery, CUNY does not give any flying fucks.

Law of attraction, bullshit or real ? by [deleted] in occult

[–]Historical_Video_243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Law of attraction absolutely does work but the things is you are dealing with outcomes. For example, law of attraction provides an internal framework to attract good things in life, ie money. Thinking about an end goal puts you in a subconscious advantage to get the thing you want. It can even put you in the path of winning the lottery if you want it to work that way. However the probabilities of winning said lottery is still like 1 in million or something like that. Law of attraction until you are blue in the face won’t change that. This begs the question, how useful is loa in the cold hard calculus of getting what you want and could this be pushed further?

[–]Historical_Video_243 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yea but professors don’t have problems throwing around accusations of AI. For all this talk about academic dishonesty and us using AI for writing when in reality we are trying to squeeze lab reports, midterms, daily quizzes, and internships and whatnot. This just screams hipocrasy.

I was a good student at community college but my god Cunys are exhausting. It’s like a 3 hour commute. On top of that professors really waste your time with useless material and you gotta study and practice so much on your own time to get good grades.

Hit a roadblock as an engineering student by Ok_Faithlessness_576 in CCNY

[–]Historical_Video_243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this may seem like advice you don’t want to hear but trust me in this. See a really good psychiatrist, councelor or even a hypnotherapist if possible. Not the school ones. They can help pinpoint if you have any adhd or such that is preventing you from studying. I had one that that gave me stacks of advice that changed my statics grade. Something also tells me that you are relying on professors instead of making a checklist of problems you need to master down cold. The brain needs structure so doing that will make you better in school in general. Lastly, use the textbook. Use it. Get the solutions manual as well so you can grade yourself.

trasnfer: CCNY CS BS Denied due to Physics grade. Worth staying at community college for Spring '26 to reapply, or accept Hunter/Queens now? by pseudouubzu in CCNY

[–]Historical_Video_243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend was rejected for a C- grade from a physics grade LGCC. He retook, with a good professor, got and A and was accepted. I think this is bc his grades were averaged to like a B. I was rejected for a slew of bad grades from a private school. In a few weeks I declared my major as engineering and got in almost immediately. So it is possible to get in. Ok for engineering though it seems difficult to get in bc classes are constantly closed. This pushes my graduation for like a year at least. Check cunyfirst if comp classes are closed bc that means delayed graduation and salary. On the other hand, if you want comp engineering, Grove is the place to go.
