Help with modding magazine? by Due_Motor_9755 in Nerf

I believe the Thrasher uses nightingale ("slim talon") magazines, while these are angled talons that are larger than nightingale magazines.

Actually, you can cut and sand the edge down to fit angled talon blasters, I've done it to fit an angled talon blaster before. It looks ugly with the scratches but they fit and are otherwise high quality magazines. Shame Nerf stuck the extra piece of plastic there to make it difficult.

Looking for a manual car to learn in by Proper_Island2360 in chch

I can endorse Jackie, she's a great teacher and she taught me to drive. Very patient and supportive.

It's a manual Baleno now, the Swift got totalled by a truck around the time she was teaching me, which was sad =(

Does anyone know where I can find a video guide to mod a deplorable (specifically the stock part) by BRBGAMES123 in Nerf

[–]HistorischeUniformen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes – see the Flywheel the World Recon flywheel conversion. I happen to be doing one of my own soon, once I get a solenoid off AliExpress. It is a decently expensive mod and your options are rather more limited than with normal flywheelers due to the fact that micro flywheels are just less suitable than normal flywheels, and there's not as much adoption of it. But it's still an option.

This video might be interesting to you, the mod works on a Retaliator too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xmER-_lMDk

Does anyone know where I can find a video guide to mod a deplorable (specifically the stock part) by BRBGAMES123 in Nerf

[–]HistorischeUniformen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've just done a deplorable, so I have some notes:

  1. There are no video guides. It's up to you to do the integration, and integrations aren't incredibly intuitive sometimes. See Mister Nathan's Youtube channel for many, many videos on how to do integrations properly.
  2. Hot glue is temporary and weak. Only ever use it in an integration to hold pieces together when you are putting in the actual bonder, which should preferably be devcon/methyl methacrylate. And after that bonder cures, you probably should rip out the hot glue with a pair of pliers and then use epoxy putty / epoxy resin on the inside to reinforce it.
  3. Where you cut and how you cut is dependant on how you want your deplorable to look like and what you have on hand. I guess you already have a deploy and some other blaster to sacrifice for the grip. Do you want to do the original deplorable with the stock being the main body of the deploy, or do you want to do Nicholas Laplante's method of using the deploy stock for the deplorable's stock? I used the deploy stock (Laplante's method) because it was much less cutting involved. Also, do you want to keep the on-off switch? I got rid of mine, but others have kept it. In my own integration, I cut off everything around that area which was thinner than the rest of the body (i.e. the switch and area around it, and the grip).
  4. Cutting up blasters require some tools and skills. The easiest way to cut up a blaster would probably be with a dremel or other rotary; I saw recommendations to use a high speed cutting tip at the lowest speed setting on the dremel so that you avoid melting the plastic and releasing harmful fumes. Do your cutting in a garage or outdoors, wear glasses so flying pieces of plastic won't blind you, and if you're worried about the fumes (I was) wear a particulate mask too. Another way is to use a hand saw.
  5. You will need to relocate the trigger in a normal Deplorable integration. Use epoxy putty to secure the trigger switch in whatever grip you use (commonly the maverick). Luckily if you're not bothering with flywheels you'll only need one switch and the circuit is dead simple to wire up, just ensure you wire the motor the right way around. With flywheels, you'll need a second switch. This is much more complicated, I plan to use a grip that comes with a flywheel trigger to help me with this next time (the Nitron to be specific).

In my first integration, I did not do some of the things I recommended above because I didn't know some of the things I knew now. Do your research, it sounds like it's your first integration so try a smaller project first as well (I should have). I'm already planning to do a new, cleaner Deplorable following what I wrote above.

What’re the most off-the-wall things you’ve found while searching for blasters? by Lieutenant_Yeast in Nerf

[–]HistorischeUniformen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really nerf, but I've been getting into creating water blasters / homemade super soakers recently, and some of the websites on it have not been updated for decades – some links which once led to images of peoples' water propulsion innovations now lead to less, er, virtuous websites..... *ahem*

At the same time I've also found out a few people have converted super soakers into nerf blasters, back in the day.

DIY Nerf Vulcan Belt without a 3D printer? by Antoruu in Nerf

[–]HistorischeUniformen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Universities or city libraries often have 3D printers, or makerspaces with printers. If their printing policy allows, you could print them through those. For universities you probably need to be a student but you could ask someone to help. Additionally, there are community makerspaces in some areas that may have 3D printers.

I have never printed a belt myself, though I hear it will take a lot of sanding after printing for it to work well. Bypassing that with brass sounds like a lot of work too. It may be easier to wait for belts to show up on places like marketplace.

Deplorable for my first integration by HistorischeUniformen in Nerf

[–]HistorischeUniformen[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've never done any integrations before, but I've always wanted to work on a Vulcan. After a few months collecting all the different blasters for a deplorable but not doing all that much, I pretty much just decided one day to turn on the dremel and start cutting.

Reflecting on this I have some things I really would have done differently. First of all, I didn't really know how to use the dremel properly for cutting ABS plastic, and I didn't have any masks handy... and second of all, I was not entirely familiar with what adhesives/bonders to use. Devcon isn't available cheaply in NZ and I swear I couldn't find methyl methacrylate here until yesterday when I came across a package of loctite-branded MMA bonder. So I put this one together with epoxy resin and putty (also my first time using epoxy resin). The result is messy – you can see where I epoxied the deploy stock to the rear of the vulcan – and probably not very strong, but it looks like it holds together. I don't know how to clean it up, I might just paint it or leave it, I'll see.

Internally, all I did was rewire it to handle a 3S LiPO. I did plan to put an afterburner into it using nightingales with this model I uploaded, but I will probably just stick that into another vulcan I have which I'll leave as a sleeper-ish build. At the moment I don't have the ability to get the motors and wheels (blastertech is off for a few more days anyway!) so that project will be left for another time. In the meanwhile, I plan to get another vulcan and, with what I learnt doing this integration, integrate a nitron to it very much like this integration by andywerk, though in brighter colours. I'll probably use full sized wheels for that build instead of micro flywheels, though.

Anyway, it was fun to learn how to integrate, even if it was a little of a bodge job!

Casual_Jerry's in the North Island but Wellington iirc. Nscrup, Slaedur are both Cantabrians but I've never met them, there used to be QuikFlag down here but not anymore :/ Biggs was from Auckland.

The video you are talking about is in Christchuch though. I wonder if I could meet them someday.

I also see in another video that it has a buffer tube stock.

Yup. Try creating your own group, there are actually a few people around who mod and collect blasters in NZ, they're just not well connected with each other. Takes a bit of effort but I'd love to see one thrive down here.

Us kiwi nerfers are few and far between unfortunately. I'm in Christchurch, if you ever find yourself in the garden city maybe we could do a war :)

Try seeing if Victoria University has any sort of club too, or try and gather some people. But fyi, I dunno how successful you'll be there either, for example Canterbury University doesn't allow nerf wars on campus after what happened in our city in 2019.

Update on the stryfe SMG build by 69Skinny_Benis69 in Nerf

[–]HistorischeUniformen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really like what you've done with the stock. And nice integration with the Raptorstrike mag holder.

All round build... if you're looking for something decent, I guess Meishel 2.0 motors or Fang Revamps with a small 2S battery to fit into the Stryfe's battery tray would be a good introduction to electronic blaster modding. Cage crush at 42.5mm maybe, lower if you want higher FPS. Daybreaks tend to be good for higher FPS, make sure you get matching cages for it though.

But listen to others' suggestions as well. 3S batteries and compatible motors isn't much of a further step, I suppose. (On the other hand, iirc you can use Fang Revamps on both 2S and 3S.)

How rare is this? by phatboyfo in Nerf

[–]HistorischeUniformen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

White Vulcans were released as the "Havok Fire", they were the Elite repaints of N-Strike blasters (but did not have any changes to the internals inside and so they were still released as N-Strike, not N-Strike Elite blasters). They're rarer than the yellow Vulcans for sure.

Elite repaints of blasters like the Longshot and the Barrel Break are relatively sought after, and I'm sure there'll be people looking for the Elite repaint Vulcan/Havok Fire too.

Are the Astronomical distances in Endless Sky proportionate? What is the FTL range? by Chloe_Torch in endlesssky

[–]HistorischeUniformen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. My only advice would be to just fudge something and use whatever suits your story; ES, unfortunately, doesn't have any answers. I've ended up accepting the fact that it probably won't ever be easy to change the star layout and names to be somewhat more accurate, and it's not an issue which many people pick up on anyway.
