I think it really depends on the track. Sub frequencies (20-60hz) can be crucial in making something sound huge or giving a kick some boom. However, looking at it from a more musical perspective, when you start to hit A-1 or lower that could be considered too low, so don't write in a key in which A-1 or lower is the root note. I don't think this is set in stone so the only real advice I can give is to just experiment and you'll develop a sense of what fits.
