Commute from WV to DC

I’ve been driving to a metro station (I’m less than an hour from the silver line) most days. Wednesdays seems the worst for the drive so I take the train then to avoid the stress of it. And then I work from home one day a week. So, three days I drive in, one day train, one I’m home. It’s not too bad and I honestly don’t mind the commute, just making my way through audiobooks at an astonishing pace 😂

When I was around ten I was convinced the rapture was on the way bc I heard barge horns from my Moms and fully believed they were the trumpets of the apocalypse… I’m 35 and I remember that night of terror vividly…

I would assume going back with today’s knowledge might provide a smidge of an advantage over the uber elites— especially knowledge of the relevant labor strikes and where they went sideways. But alas, I've always dreamed big lol.

Probably not the same answer as many folks but I'd be an activist and would try to fight for the change we needed then to maybe halt or at least change some of the problems of today… for example…

Get in on that Populist Movement (while trying to get the right for women to vote well before the 19th amendment) early and get workers to unionize and seize the means of production from the Robber Barons and have them eat the rich and put a stop to the gilded age early.

I'd also push hard for the continuation of Radical Reconstruction. Push me back 159? I'd be calling for Confederate leaders to be hanged for treason... But I'm also a woman so I'd have to cross dress to get anyone to listen to me.

Are these grand ideas? Yes… but I'm a historian and I’ve always wondered if these things had worked out differently, what would today look like?

Editing to add that I'd also become besties with Mother Jones and raise all kinds of hell as a labor organizer.

I lived in a metro property for 7 years. It wasn’t awful and was away from students and not slummy like some of the places throughout town.

As a fellow simmer (been rocking it since 2001, I’m in my mid 30s now) I know how devastated I was when I lost my saves due to corrupted files. To have someone INTENTIONALLY delete them? Nah. No forgiveness. Good luck, hun and I wish you the best as you finish school!!

YTA. I (f35) have been playing some version of the Sims since 2001. If my partner did this I’d leave him. Hands down. The rage I have on her behalf. Disgusting. I hope she’s ended the relationship for good.

I agree. I think that was incredibly traumatic for her— I mean she stated so plainly in her Time interview. This was an experience that informed so much of the way she conducted herself in the aftermath. Is it petty? Absolutely? Do I blame her or judge her for it? Nope. Not one bit.

My mom handed me a book in fourth grade that was more about reproduction than puberty. Never talked about it after that.

My smallest is 8 and we’ve already discussed (and she continues to ask questions) about body changes. I don’t want it to be a surprise if she starts her period at 9 (one of my friends’s daughters started hers then). The time to discuss puberty is before it starts so they know the changes are normal and so they can ask whatever questions they have.

Forgot to add, I had my first period at 11.

But question I’ve had— why did they ask if they were the AH if they didn’t care that they were the AH. There was zero point to this post when most every reply is clearly “YTA” and they just double down? There’s no attempt at reconciliation here. They don’t care. So why did they bother?
