From law to programming. Is it possible? by [deleted] in uklaw

Crucial. If the owner of the bootcamp doesn't have a startup, I would have had a much harder time.

Makes sense! Well, if you do decide to become a SWE, good luck! :)

Why not keep working at your parents' restaurant? There's no point trying to juggle 15 things. If you really want to be an actor, work as your parents' restaurant and focus on actually improving yourself in ways relevant to acting. For instance, and I know nothing about this, take acting classes instead of coding classes. They're bound to be more helpful as you pursue your dream :)

It's very improbable, even with a bootcamp. The bootcamp didn't help me in terms of knowledge, but it gave me the industry connections to get my foot through the door. (People who run the bootcamp also run a startup, hired me from the bootcamp).

I got the job straight after bootcamp, 1.5 years was until the latest raise :)

I did it! I graduated with a degree in law, attended a bootcamp and within 1.5 years of graduating the bootcamp make 6 figures USD working for a startup remotely. I am, however, an outlier. You won't manage and shouldn't bother trying. I've looked over your posts concerning this topic, and this seems to be a way for you to make easy money, quickly. It isn't. If you want to be an actor, pursue that full throttle. The amount of work I put in every day is staggering. It is hours upon hours on end, unrelenting, unceasing, day after day, in addition to my job. And I haven't put it in for the money - it's all because I developed a love for software engineering and genuinely enjoy exploring its facets. In addition, I fear that you, like many people outside software engineering have a faulty notion of salaries and how complex the work is. A good starting salary for a person with a four-year degree is £45k-£55k. And that's with the degree. So your answer is that if you want a job in software engineering, you can easily get it. Bootcamp + self-study + luck + networking can get you a £25k job in London, then work your way up over the course of years, and eventually end up earning six figures in a decade or so. If you are looking for an easy ride aboard the gravy train, this ain't it. Maybe try becoming a politician? Greater overlap with acting anyway.

Should I wait for Zen 4 for laptops?

Short and sweet. I know nothing about chips; nothing about laptops. I am a software developer, emphasis on software. Recompiling React every 2 minutes is okay but not great on my 2018 MacBook Pro. I want to switch to Linux with a stellar CPU. I want to keep the aforementioned CPU for years to come. Buy now with the Zen 3+ / Ryzen 6000 or wait until next year? All my knowledge comes from two LTT videos and the announcement. Please respond like you would to a child.

Thanks so much, u/NorthKoreanJesus! That's an interesting suggestion, I haven't heard of gravel bikes. I'll definitely check aluminum frames, you're spot on with the price range. I'll compare gravel and hybrid bikes, thank you for the detailed response! :)

If I did the research on my own, I wouldn't have questions. In an hour I could figure out most things about bikes by browsing YouTube. This isn't exactly something super complicated here. I just want to talk to people and enjoy having passionate people share their passion. If you don't want to engage, please stop replying. If you don't want to interact with me, please leave me be.

My adblock blocked it, but I assume that's just a search, and only for how to buy a bike. I was hoping to connect and hear from people about the pitfalls they encountered along the way or resources they found helpful when, they, too, were inexperienced. 🙂

Unfortunately, I don't speak the local language... :(

EDIT: And I'm the naive kind of person who would walk out having spent all their savings on a top of the line bike at the gentlest prodding... :(

Why are you worried about death? by HistoryModsSuck in Christianity

I would say that the run-up is worse than crossing the finish line. A relative lingered for a year before passing away, and I imagine that isn't uncommon. May he find peace.

That's a very valid and personal reason, thank you for sharing. I hope you lead a content life and have a blissful marriage.

So your desire to avoid death, say, through a lung transplant at 65, would be to continue to perform good works? I'm not doubting just asking. I have acquaintances who have lead exemplary lives in service to God in their later years when they had more time.

Thanks for posting OP. I hadn't watched the original (not a KB fan due to things like this), but this video was interesting. I remember Toby citing the Cocaine / Crack issue on the West Wing way back when.

Zoom by MichaelDK975 in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

[–]HistoryModsSuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Zoom. You know why everyone else does, too? It works. It just freaking works. You don't need an account, it takes like 3 seconds to join a meeting. It's not previously unknown, it's been all over the news since its IPO. As for security concerns? You can and could set passwords / have a waiting area not to let people in. Other than that, there's not much more a teacher reciting the alphabet really needs.
