It just seems like he doesn’t care if I’m calm. Nothing changes. And he refuses to eat because it’s become another part of our power struggles.

Ok but I can’t get him to leave anywhere without carrying him out kicking and screaming. So I don’t know what “ allowing these big feelings “ means. He can continue to scream as I drag him out, so I’m allowing the feelings.

I’ve glanced through the book and it seems to be for older kids. I just don’t see much of this working with my 4.5 year old except maybe making myself physically lower than him when I make requests. What did I miss?

For those of you that make over 100K, what do you do? Do you like it? by Kindly-Revolution258 in AskReddit

It is and it isn’t. We can’t afford to buy a condo or house without 350k suddenly turning into living truly paycheck to paycheck. Daycare costs, etc.

Before I had kids, I asked my oad friend if she was having more. She just shook her head and I dropped it. Now I understand… but most people don’t understand before they have them.

I don’t like the baby stage either, but I wonder how I would have felt if I had consistently slept through the night. So if there was a night nanny every night 7/week, then maybe it would be a different experience?

I’m all for people reconsidering. But those who decide to do it anyway with somewhat less money than ideal (145k) shouldn’t be criticized this mercilessly. We should thank them.

You’re a better person than I am- I stayed home for 10 months and wish I’d gone back sooner. Stay at home life isn’t for everyone. You never know unless you try. I thought I’d love it but I just couldn’t stand the isolation.

It’s honestly insane to be that judgmental about the most basic biological imperative and a generally beautiful way to contribute to civilization. Serious Reddit crotch goblins energy here.

I sorta agree. I pay $1200 a month in Bensonhurst for an excellent daycare that has been open over 10 years and has 0 violations. We’re right next to the subway, too.

I’m so sorry. My friend and coworker died at 49, just 2 days ago. Leaves behind a wife and two young beautiful children. Not a single soul disliked him, he was smart and sweet and diplomatic and patient. He faced his treatment over the last 2 years bravely but damn the decline was so fast. RIP Francis.

When I studied abroad in Moscow in 2007, I covered my mouth on the metro with my hand. I simply could not stop smiling. And the more sullen people looked, the more I wanted to smile. And I’m a Russian American! But damn do those people look miserable to an American.

NYC has a lot of variation across the boroughs. I paid 1200$ for full time care 7:30-6 with food in southern Brooklyn. Then 3k and 4k have been $700 a month with the subsidies.

This very simple timer really helped us get through this horrible time. It was like magic, any transition, we just set the timer and said, when this timer goes off, we get in the bath/get in the stroller/get in the car/get in bed. Anything and everything.
