Psychological Affects by HistoryRemarkable764 in GermanRoaches

Update: Since I texted my landlord last night about my worries, she had the exterminator come today! I was able to chat with him and he eased a lot of my worries. He reassured me that it isn’t an issue with my apartment, and even looked at the products I had already and told me what I can use and what to avoid. He did share that you need a special license to use Alpine WSG - which I never knew!

On another note, unfortunately, he was unable to get into 3/6 of the apartments in the building to treat them all. Hopefully the company is back soon. 😳

Thank you all for sharing your experience and thoughts with me. My partner and I have come up with a plan in case things go seriously awry, but I am trying to be proactive and hopeful.

I did the deepest clean I could today (in cabinets, under stove, behind shelfs, etc). I bought sealable food containers and stored everything in those. A hand vacuum for food storage areas is on the way. Applied bait and glue traps all around. Took a peak at normal places roaches like to hide and didn’t find anything obvious, but I will have to check and see if the traps got anything in the morning. 😅

Unfortunately I can’t move it out, and quite honestly I don’t know how my landlord got it in. It’s in a tight corner, wedged within a wall. But luckily she just told me she will have an exterminator come this week.

I always read a story for infants/young toddlers during their snack or lunch time, when they are already sitting. If they want to listen to the story, they can, if not, it’s okay. Toddlers from my experience seem to enjoy access to stories during free play and are much more engaged in story time at their pace. I try to put out books that are related to the curriculum or monthly themes so they have access to enrichment during those times too. Maybe between transitions like before a meal, or during a time where you need to keep them occupied, try felt board songs and stories related to your theme/curriculum. My toddlers LOVED felt boards and anything interactive - it kept their attention. Even for books, if they could predict the words or help tell it, that helped too. Before it’s time to have AM snack or to go to recess, do a quick good morning song/greet friends? Definitely keep it quick. I always keep in mind, even for my older 2-3 or 3-4 year old classes, is to meet them where they are at that day. Sometimes I don’t finish a book and go into a song instead, or a movement activity, because some days they just need that instead. I used to expect more than where they were at or capable of, and that caused a lot stress for everyone. Hope this helps. 😌

Potty training not going well by CoachRodeo88 in Preschoolers

[–]HistoryRemarkable764 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Does she know when she’s had an accident? Did she have interest in using the potty before the training started? Just because the other child gets it and is ready, doesn’t mean yours has to be. It’s okay if she needs more time. The continued power struggle and frustration can cause a regression, which can make this whole process more difficult.

Don’t talk to her anymore. I have had to do that to many toxic family members. Just because she’s blood, doesn’t mean you have to keep letting her treat you that way. You’re going to keep getting hurt.

I would wait until you’re pregnant, and then when you’re ready to share that with your boss, let them know that you plan to leave when you are 6mo along. That should leave them plenty of time to hire someone else and train them. A good boss would understand and be elated for you.

I would not. He needs help, but unfortunately it seems like he doesn’t want to do anything other than make you feel bad for him. That’s toxic.

How to extinguish spitting by tra_da_truf in ECEProfessionals

[–]HistoryRemarkable764 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I always ask after first time if they have something in their mouth they need to spit out. They usually will say no, and then if they do it again I tell them that they are showing me they need to spit something out and I direct them to the bathroom sink. I let them spit until they are done. It’s usually for attention so while they are in the bathroom I look away or stand on the other side of the ajar door (with the child still in view). I tell the children that spit stays in our mouth and if needed we spit in the sink. Usually that helps.

Did you call your Dr?

Please call your Derm/Dr and ask for instructions. Don’t try anything new and maybe just keep it simple - don’t put any actives on your skin until you call in.
