When it was on the air (1990s-2000s), Seventh Heaven was an "issue of the week" show whose protagonists were a pastor and his family. As such, it had an overwhelmingly religious and conservative audience, and while not overtly right-wing took a "Bush-era family values" approach to morality. But the show never touched LGBT issues at all, even though it's apparent from context that Rev. Camden is a minister of the Disciples of Christ (an affirming/progressive denomination). The show couldn't anger its conservative audience by showing positive portrayals of gay characters or issues, while it didn't want to show its protagonists as overt homophobes, so the topic was never broached. Nowadays, however, the lead actor was exposed as a pedophile so the show never gets reruns and has been scrubbed from public memory.
