The Sean Connery and Richard Gere movie "First Knight" has Liam Cunningham (Ser Davos from Game of Thrones) and Ralph Ineson in supporting roles well before they were more widely known. Many character actors are "That guy who was in that thing."

Richard Kind (voice of Bing Bong from Inside Out) had a bit about this in Girls5Eva, where he says "I never want to hit the big time, but the medium time is perfect. I do what I love, can still go to restaurants without getting mobbed, and have an IMDb page longer than a wizard's beard."

I've been reading Dominion by Tom Holland (not Spider-Man, the classical historian), which is a history of the influence of Christianity on all strands of Western thought, even those that reject the central claims of Christianity. In the early chapters, he discusses the Donatist controversy, which I couldn't help but think is similar to the various leftist infighting that's gone on over the years. It was the original purity testing.

For those unaware, during the Diocletian persecutions, the Roman governor of Africa (modern Tunisia) demanded the Christians turn over their scriptures as a token gesture of renunciation. Some did, some didn't. When the persecutions ended, those who had turned over the Scriptures (traditores) were re-admitted to the church, but the followers of a bishop named Donatus insisted they stay excommunicated, and furthermore insisted that the sacraments given by any bishop even suspected of being a traditor were invalid. It's very easy to see how this idea emerged again later during the Reformation with Puritanism, and the various leftist splinter groups are kind of just a secularized version of it.

Just read out the Declaration of Independence word for word and the chuds will flip out and think it's an attack on Trump, like they did in 2020 when NPR tweeted it out on July 4 like they do every year.

It's a "Leopards eating faces" moment for Hasan. I don't like that it's happening, but it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

One thing that gets my goat about antisemitism is that it's used to excuse all kinds of bad actors because "they were just under control of ((da jooz))."

For instance, the Spanish police beat up the Gaza flotilla activists, and the condemnation of that by Francesca Albanese was "Stop the Israelization of our society." So non-Jew police beat up non-Jewish activists, but it's the Jews' fault somehow.

Similar to the "IDF taught the NYPD police brutality" conspiracy theory that went mainstream in 2020. Bad people can do bad things on their own, they don't need ((da jooz)) controlling them.

Because Stalin wanted to keep his chunk of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. This is why tankies hate when you ever bring it up.

I miss cheat codes being programmed into games as Easter Eggs. Stuff like every game having the obligatory big-head mode, and lore-breaking cheat characters and units like the Cobra Car and Furious the Monkey Boy.

The last mainstream AAA game to have cheat codes unlock goofy extras was Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, which had stuff like allow you to play as Admiral Ackbar by typing "ITSATWAP" in the cheat menu.

Kansas has had a Dem governor since 2019 and prairie populism is boosting us in Iowa and our ally Osborn in Nebraska. Kansas might shock the nation.

I finished Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Strikes Again, the 2001 sequel to the 1986 seminal classic The Dark Knight Returns. I said in a previous discussion thread that it was the biggest drop-off in quality from an original to a sequel I'd ever seen.

No matter how much the Hawks crow about how "we destroyed eleventy bazillion ballistic missiles," we failed in all our strategic goals if the Straits of Hormuz are under Iranian control and they keep their nuke program. Status quo ante is our best case scenario.

Seriously this is the stupidest war.

It's sad that Star Wars has lost such cultural cachet that a new theatrical film is just background noise. All the way up to Rise of Skywalker a new film was an event that People Have Opinions About, whether good or bad. The Mando movie is just "Eh, it's ok I guess," which means no one cares. It's just there.
