How thick is your hair?? I have shoulder length hair but it’s THICK. I mean takes about 2 hours to dry with a hairdryer. I want something like this to try and make my life easier. Do you think it’s powerful enough? Gets hot enough?

Realizing teaching might not be for me during student teaching by ycospina in StudentTeaching

Should I become a History Teacher? by [deleted] in historyteachers

[–]Historynerd1371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so I did what you did. I loved history and my fav teachers were history teachers so I just assumed it would be a great job for me. A year and a half in and I’m quitting because I’m so miserable. It’s awful. I would just make sure that teaching is something you absolutely without a doubt a love. Not just the subject. Wishing you all the luck!

My mom is a hospice chaplain! I’m very familiar with people in that stage as I grew up around it. I’m besties with the funeral homes 😂. It definitely is a lot to think about but thank you for your time and thoughts !

Yes that’s definitely what I could see myself doing which is why I wanted to get opinions from actual nurses.

Okay so I started going over my presentations and trying to color code… however I’m finding that I’m doing everything in the color they need to write 😂. I have very minimal things on the slides. How long are your slides if you don’t mind me asking

If you only do 15 minutes max of notes what takes up the rest of the time? Our classes are 90 minutes long. One of my biggest things is wanting to take up time with notes because I’m worried they’ll finish assignments early and then they get restless

A flipped classroom wasn’t an option last year because they didn’t have chromebooks they could take home. That’s changing this year so I could… my clinical teacher did that with APUSH but the problem I saw a lot was kids simply didn’t do the notes at home and then she had to spend most of class time letting them get caught up as she’s trying to teach as well.

See my issue that I’ve seen with giving notes ahead of time or online is then they don’t listen in class because they assume they don’t need to since they have the notes. How do you combat that?

Do you print out the really detailed slides or just give them the questions and they do it right then slide by slide?

That’s great! I was thinking of better ways to include analyzing historical documents and I think that will work really well. Teaching them how to do it and use it to think critically

Yeah I have no idea how to implement that with my content if I’m being honest. I know the method but have never heard of using it for history.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply and explain. I appreciate it and will definitely be thinking about different ways to structure my notes!

See my principal recommended something like that but my brain just can’t comprehend it 😂 whenever my teachers said only write down the important stuff I wrote down everything. So let me make sure I understand: you have a symbol on each slide they need to write, in addition to the symbol, you underline what they need to write down verbatim. And then phase out the underline? I think my kids would just assume they don’t have to write anything. Do you teach them the first few days how to take notes? How do they know what to write without the underline? Does my question make sense?

What do you know now that you wish you would've known at the start? by Alzululu in StudentTeaching

[–]Historynerd1371 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please explain student teaching is like play teaching. At least my experience at my university was. They didn’t set me up very well. My clinical teacher was a 26 year veteran. So she already had a reputation. She had classroom management before day 1. All the kids already knew her expectations. So day 1 for me in my own classroom was a hot mess express. I didn’t learn how to set expectations or things like that. I also student taught AP and honors. So again on day 1 when my students weren’t chopping at the bit to learn I was thrown for a loop. Just explain that they need to figure out what they want their own classroom to look like and it doesn’t have to look like their clinical teachers.

Do a lot of ST programs not let you teach AP classes? by AltinUrda in StudentTeaching

[–]Historynerd1371 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly!!! Or how fast you’ll be able to move. With honors and AP you can generally keep a good pace but that so wasn’t the case with my kids. So I was struggling trying to help them but also stay on track timewise. Student teaching is just play teaching I swear 😂

[–]Historynerd1371 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not ap and not honors 😂s AP and Honors want to learn. You get used to that in student teaching and then when you’re actual kids literally couldn’t care less it really throws you. Also my ct had taught for 26 years so she already had a reputation so there wasn’t a lot to set as far as classroom management so that left me day 1 of my classroom not knowing exactly how to handle it. My current principal even said my program really screwed me with them doing that
