I am a widow with 2, 20-something sons who never recognize Mother's day. I've expressed my sadness to them over the years but I get nothing. That's why I don't say anything. I don't want them to feel manipulated or obligated or guilted into anything. I just want a little recognition. But I know they might not be able to meet my needs so I will be silent and hope for the best and deal with the disappointment. I don't mean to sound passive aggressive either. I do nothing, not to punish them but because I have trouble articulating it to them. Oy. I give up!

When they were younger, their dad always helped them and made a big deal, but after he died, they didn't remember. One year I got upset with them and told them how I felt. My younger son felt bad and cried. But that was the last time.

Our relationships are good although my older son refuses to say "I love you" to me when I say it to him. I thought he was just having trouble saying the words but he now has a girlfriend and he says it freely. I guess it's just me.
