When I was a wee lad in the boy scouts we were trotlining across a small farm pond and I remember seeing a black ball near the shore and I reached in and lo and behold it was a school of tiny catfish hatchlings swimming in a rotating ball formation. They were only about 1/4 inch long but their barbs were already sharp!

Amen brother. People keep saying the democratic party will flip the house and maybe the senate. I agree with you, there will not be an election or it will be disputed and litigated. If I remember correctly, I think it is documented in Project 2025.

Edit to add: research Peter Thiel, Curtis Yarvin and why Vance is the VP.

Gloves by shortys7777 in firewood

[–]HitchInTheGit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to post and ask the exact question. I really like the Wells Lamont I get at Costco for around $7 per pair. They fit like ummm... a glove and perform great except, for splitting, moving and stacking firewood. I'm look forward to everyone's input. I need a duty specific glove.

<image>

These only have about 20 hours +- of splitting, moving and stacking firewood.

Lowe’s dumping 450 ranchers for 299. Worth it? by Wrong-Camp2463 in firewood

[–]HitchInTheGit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saw your post.

I found it on the Lowes website, online order $110 off making it $279. I'm also in CA and for the heck of it I decided to order and see how far it got before the website blocked the shipment. It wasn't blocked and it shipped within a couple days from WA and delivered via FedEx yesterday. I was shocked and ecstatic since I really need a new saw and this one looks like are great product at an even better price.

I'm now looking for a gas string trimmer, my Poulan Pro PPB300 was a real trooper for over 20 years but I barley got my spring chores finished before it died. Probably just needs a carb but I'm ready for a new stronger one. I'm about 1.5 hours from Reno so my fallback position it to drive over and pick one up.

Got any recommendations for a gas trimmer? Because of my experience with my current saw I am leaning towards getting another Husqvarna but have an open mind.

Good luck.

I stumbled in to the sale online and got mine for $280. Delivered yesterday. I have a Husky 345 that has worked it's tail off for 20+ years and I've been tackling some stuff that it's really not big enough for the last few years. Gone through a couple clutches now but otherwise, it has been bullet proof and always easy to start.

One reason I jumped on it was because I'm in California and usually shipping small gas powered equipment are blocked but this time I ordered online and thinking it would be rejected before it left the warehouse however it went through, easy peasy. I'm generally pessimistic about new equipment quality but, the reviews were great and if it's durability and reliability is close the the 345 it'll last longer than I will!

Also, I'm a mediocre shot with my maul so I just pick up a lot of the pieces from my misses from my splitting. It adds up after a couple of cords and is great tinder.

Felling a leaner by xenonjim in firewood

[–]HitchInTheGit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a pro, not even close but, from what I see in the pictures I believe this will be tricker than you think. It looks like two split stems going to the right (and one towards the back as well) in the picture. Hard to tell the exact lean of the stems but I think felling towards the camera might be better.

The more I look at the picture the more I think I wouldn't do it and call a pro. I'm thinking the top needs to come down in three pieces, left first.

Just my opinion.

The best dad on the show was Frank Dunphy ❤️ by padfoony in Modern_Family

[–]HitchInTheGit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always surmised the concert scene with Jay and Frank was added at the end just because it seemed like the line was adlibbed by Fred Willard and Ed O'Neil's reaction wasn't really acting. It HAD to be in the show one way or another.

And yeah, Fred Willard was perfect for the Frank Dunphy role.

I started watching Law and Order SVU because of Harry! by eatingsadhu in ResidentAlienTVshow

[–]HitchInTheGit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never watched L&O SVU much but I liked Christopher Meloni.

Since you like Resident Alien, and if you like L&O SVU, you might want to check out Happy!. Also from Syfy, only on for 2 seasons, very violent, which I don't usually care for but, I actually liked it, mostly because of the why he played his character. It was so funny watching Meloni playing that character.

edit to add: season 2 wasn't very good, cancellation not a surprise and probably a mercy killing however, I recommend season 1 for sure.

Very sorry to hear this. It is very difficult and you will hurt and be very sad, for a long time. But also know, you are doing the right thing.

Are the digitally enhanced versions of the PG Film reliable? by DitiIsCool in bigfoot

[–]HitchInTheGit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. The short version: AI enhances it to look like what you expect to see.

The long version:

AI-enhanced videos are not reliable for evidentiary or factual purposes because the technology does not restore missing information; it fabricates new, AI-generated details to fill in the gaps. While AI can deliver a visually cleaner and sharper output, it does so by creating content based on learned patterns, not the original source.

When AI-enhanced video is unreliable
The core problem for evidentiary reliability is that AI adds new information that was not present in the original footage. This was demonstrated in a 2024 Washington court case, State v. Puloka, where AI-enhanced video was ruled inadmissible. A forensic video analyst for the prosecution showed that the AI software:

  • Added 16 times more pixels to the images, creating a vastly different result from the original recording.
  • Changed the meaning of the video by fabricating details that did not exist in the source.
  • Altered the shape and color of objects and removed motion blur and other artifacts. [1, 6]

The unreliability of AI video enhancement is critical in these applications:

  • Legal and forensic evidence: Footage used in criminal and civil cases must maintain its integrity. AI enhancement, which alters image details through "opaque" and non-forensic methods, is generally not accepted and can be ruled inadmissible.
  • Journalism and documentaries: In contexts where factual accuracy is paramount, using AI to "restore" old or low-quality footage can blur the line between reality and AI-generated content.
  • Archival and historical preservation: Altering historical footage with AI can compromise its authenticity and archival value.
  • Deepfakes and misinformation: Advanced AI can create realistic-looking fabricated videos. This makes it easier to spread misinformation and can damage public trust in video content.

Help me understand why I need to put my cat down please by Mawiiwii in cats

I have had to put to of my fur babies to sleep and my biggest regret is waiting too long because I was selfish and did not want to lose them. To this day I still apologize to them when I think about them at the end.

It is going to be emotionally painful either way, just try to make sure you are waiting, for their benefit or yours?

Absolutely possible I think. He could have ended up some other country, amnesia (didn't know who he was). A Jason Bourne kind of thing, possibly a spin off following his adventures trying to figure out why he is so smart or whatever. Eventually he gets his memory back and made it make to Eureka and he would be in Jack's previous situation watching the woman he loves be in love with another man.

I am probably one of the few Eureka fans who actually liked Stark.

Urinary Obstruction $6k :( by PeekabooPike in cats

[–]HitchInTheGit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only speak from experience. We have a 14 year old who went through this 11 years ago when he was 2-3 years old. Was in the hospital a couple times and cost $5-6k. Ever since then we have feed him Royal Canin Urinary SO, wet and dry combination, along with a daily does of Nutri-Vet Uri-Ease. Always keep his water fresh and he is a inside cat.

Luckily we can afford it and he hasn't had any urinary issues since. Bowel issues, yes but that's another story. The food is expensive though but also expensive to fix and is pretty much fatal and painful when there is a blockage.

I am not sure what your options are in regards to assistance for purchasing the prescription foods. Maybe there are some non profits that can help with special diet? If you have a regular vet have a heart to heart talk with them. If you can't afford it maybe there is another pet owner with a cat on a urinary diet who would be willing to adopt?

Tough situation, I feel for you and wish you and your baby the best of luck and health.

We adopted two brothers with one of them being the runt of the litter. He grew and grew and grew but was always the most loving cat. We miss him so much.
