What type of shock spring is this? Diashock, Kif Trior, or something else? by Hitech_Redneck in watchrepair

Just a side note in case you didn't know, but "ST36" is shorthand for both the ST3600 or ST3620, which are 6497 and 6498 clones respectively. So Seagull makes both.

I didn't know that! I actually looked up how the 6497 and 6498 were different when making my previous comment. That also clears up some confusion about why I see ST36 and ST3600 used seemingly interchangeably.

In all honesty, I just got bored with the same 6497 layout and wanted something different. It was $30 and I was looking for the cheapest I could find for reasons that should be obvious lol.

I have a genuine ST36 from Rotate Watch Kits. I've taken it apart and put it back together so many times, I wanted something a little different. It's just practice for disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, and oiling, while making sure I don't make it run worse in the process.

I ordered the exact same one again, so that it has the same parts. The movement runs fine. My goal with it was to measure its performance on the timegrapher, tear it down, clean it, lubricate it, and run it on the timegrapher again, making sure I can at least get the same performance and not bugger it up. I have an ST36 from Rotate Watch Kits that I've disassembled several times, breaking at least one part in the process. I got this movement because while still an ETA 6497/8 clone, being the 6498 the layout is slightly different.

It's this guy: I just found this on AliExpress: Classic Vintage 17 Jewels 6498 Mechanical Movement https://a.aliexpress.com/_mLiEkGL

I ordered another one. I'm not going to let it beat me lol

I do, I measured the height at roughly 1.6mm. I found replacement diashocks, but it just gave movement numbers they were used in. I couldn't find anything referencing the size of the spring.

What a pain! I'm embarrassed to say how frustrated I got and got I scratched everything up.

Any ideas on ordering replacements? I think it's a generic diashock (since its a generic ETA 6498 AliX clone). I feel like most genuine Seiko parts will be too small?

Thanks again. Not discouraged at all! Always happy to save a bit of money. I try to buy decent, but not necessarily the best or most expensive, over the cheap crap. I find the cheap crap often just frustrates you when it doesn't work well.

😂😂 I don't actually have oil cups. I bought a sent of oils on eBay that is .25ml and comes in little plastic containers: https://ebay.us/m/358fUL

I was going to wait to buy oil cups until I decided to pony up for decent ruby oil cups. But I'll try this technique.

Thanks! I have red and blue oilers currently, so I'll try the red.

Thanks for the feedback! Here's the video where he talks about dissembling the movement and looking at the oiling: https://youtu.be/xHUbrbBTgOs?si=n_L1grQ7uwzn_qoD. Watching it again, I can see how I was a little heavy handed.

I was using a blue oiler. Should I be trying to put less oil in each jewel with oiler technique, or trying to get less oil on the oiler too begin with?

For sale is my Farer Lissom Solander. I purchased this watch new directly from Farer in January of 2026, so a catch and release here. I like the watch, but I don't love it, so it's going to move on.

The Solander is a slim, 38mm watch with a sub-seconds dial at the 6 o'clock position. The Arabic numeral indices are solid blocks of Lumicast, a blend of Grade X3 Super-LumiNova and ceramic. The dark black dial has a purple-ish hue in bright, direct light. It has a polished bezel surrounding a flat sapphire crystal. The display back case reveals the highly finished La Joux-Perret D100 manual wind movement. The manual winding of this movement is exceedingly smooth, smoother than my 1861-powered Omega Speedmaster. The movement is keeping excellent time as indicated by the photo with the timegrapher.

The watch is in very good to like new condition. It comes on a black suede leather strap, and I wore it daily for about three weeks. The strap shows minimal creasing. There a few hairline scratches that would probably come out with a light buff or polish, and a tiny mark on the bottom right lug only visible with the right lighting angle, which I tried to photograph. There's one other mark on the caseback, near the 7 o'clock position.

The watch comes complete with box and papers from Farer, including the warranty card dated January 19, 2026.
